Domaine Sigalas "Am" Cyclades Assyrtiko/Monemvasia 2019

(9/2020) Paris Sigalas founded his winery on the picturesque Greek island of Santorini in 1991. It is now one of the very finest producers of wine throughout the entire country. This combination of Assyrtiko from his native Santorini and Monemvasia from the nearby isle of Paros is his newest blend. It offers enticing aromas of peach blossom highlighted by salted melon and honeyed volcanic minerality. On the richly textured palate, quince, red-skinned pear, lemon zest and apricot course through an ample, medium-to-full bodied frame with terrific, mouthwatering acidity. The master has clearly done it again! Fans of Assyrtiko will rejoice the approachable price and lovers of great dry Chenin Blanc and Arneis will find there to be tremendous crossover appeal. This brisk island wine will resonate with a massive swath of white wine fans.

(11/2020) Year after year, this 100% Syrah Cotes-du-Rhone is a Vin Chicago customer and staff favorite. Lush and deep with fresh blue and black fruits, hints of smoke and coffee and a dense, energized finish, the 2019 bottling is a total rockstar. Delicious!

91/100 - Wine Advocate (10/30/2020) "I have loved the nose of the young Graciano since I smelled the first vintage, and the 2019 Lagrimas de Bhilar Graciano, which has changed the name slightly, is no exception. It's floral and perfumed, showy and peppery. Furthermore, I think Graciano ripened nicely in 2019, and this is really very good. With ripe fruit and a soft palate, this is a young red designed to be drunk early, after spending six months in concrete where it fermented with natural yeasts. Delicious. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2020."

When we first sampled this wine, after leaving it to aerate in our glass, we were SURE we'd been advanced in our flight to a good quality Crozes-Hermitage at nearly three times this price. Nope, this is just that good - amnd should be your absolute go-to house wine at this sizzling price!

(11/2020) What happens when Adi Badenhorst, one of South Africa's top winemakers decides to make a value oriented wine? This! Sourced from old vines in the Swartland region, this blend of Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre is aged entirely in concrete tanks and it drinks well above its humble price. Dark berry, plum, smoked meat, leather and an array of spices lead off the complex aromas. The palate is a mix of red and black fruits, licorice, leather and spice. There is an underlying earthiness that adds complexity. Finishing with light tannins, this will be an excellent pairing with smoked meat, grilled short ribs or a wild mushroom pasta. (South Africa)
