(1/2021) Florian Lauer is an exceptional winemaker in Mosel who has gone from underrated to well-known in the last decade. The Fass 6 "Senior" is just another example of the incredibly focused wines we have come to expect. With searing acidity, bursting lemon/lime flavors, and a lingering stony, white flower finish this is easily one of the best declassified Riesling in Mosel. Even better is how the wine gets its name...Fass 6 (Fass is German for barrel) "Senior" is affectionately named after Florian Lauer's grandfather, Peter. Every vintage he would taste through the year's wines and select one barrel, for his personal consumption. On this barrel, he would write "Senior." According to Florian, eight or nine times out of ten, his grandfather would pick Fass 6.
