Kershaw Elgin Syrah 2014

92 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The 2014 Clonal Selection Elgin Syrah has a refined bouquet that actually needed some coaxing from the glass, eventually offering boysenberry, bilberry and violet scents. The palate is well balanced with sappy red berry fruit, white pepper and hints of bacon fat towards the finish. There something animally and gamey about this Syrah, yet that merely enhances its complexity. This is a very fine Syrah that will give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure."

Rall Swartland White Blend 2016

91+ Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
(4/28/2017) "The 2016 White Blend is a blend of 60% Chenin Blanc, 30% Verdelho and 3% Viognier with 7% Chardonnay. The 2016 includes a new addition to the blend in the form of a new schist vineyard to complement the decomposed granite soils (the vineyard also includes Syrah that will be bottled separately from 2017). Also, it is the first white blend under 14% alcohol. It has a lovely bouquet: nectarine, a hint of praline, lanolin and a hint of walnut that gains more and more delineation with time. The palate is beautifully balanced with a fine line of acidity, just a hint of praline once again on the back palate, nectarine and white peach towards the poised finish. What a superb white blend from Donovan Rall. Drink 2017 - 2030."

Stony Brook Vineyards "The Lyle" Coastal Region Sparkling Chardonnay 2013

Winemaker's Notes
"Fresh citrus on the nose, with a hint of brioche from the extended lees contact. Lovely balance between brightness and richness on the palate, followed by a long, dry finish, allowing this Cap Classique to be cellared for many years to come. A wonderful wine to accompany oysters or to be enjoyed on its own for that special celebration."

Stony Brook Vineyards "Ovidius" Franschhoek Tempranillo 2014

A toasty, unique offering that is reminscent of quality Reserva-level Ribera del Duero!
Winemaker's Notes
"Long elevage in first and second-use French Oak. Intense cherry tobacco aromas and dark, ripe black fruit are immediately present on the nose, followed by sweet spice, nutmeg and a touch of oak. There is a definite black cherry character on the palate that rounds off the fine, silky tannins and plush, ripe fruit finish."

Van Loggerenberg "Geronimo" Stellenbosch Cinsault 2017

91 Vinous, Neal Martin
91+ Our Score
(10/2018) Another new South African find, this time from an exciting producer in the Stellenbosch region. Alive with great energy and freshness, this 100% whole cluster Cinsault reminds us of a wine from one of Kermit Lynch's natural growers in the Languedoc. Red fruit flavors, floral notes and pepper intermingle beautifully. This medium-bodied wine has the capability of drinking well for days after opening. Young Lukas Van Loggerenberg is bottling some seriously distinctive wines, and his "Geronimo" is delightful.

Swerwer Western Cape Red Blend 2017

90 Our Score
(2/2019) This non-interventionist wine is crafted from old, low-yielding vineyards planted to Cinsault, Grenache and Tinta Barocca. The wine is 100% whole-cluster, fermentation is spontaneous with the wine brought-up for 12 months in neutral French oak. Despite the hot climate origins, this wine is decidedly energetic. Delicate floral notes lift a compact, cherry-fruited palate with good grit and structure from the unique Portuguese variety. A different kind of barbecue wine that has a wide swath of appeal!
