Castell d'Age "Anne Marie" Brut Nature Reserva Cava NV

91 Our Score
(9/2018) The latest batch of the Castell d'Age "Anne Marie" has arrived and it is delicious! After one sip, a member of our tasting group exclaimed, "How can a $15 Cava taste like $30 Champagne?" This is no ordinary Cava. The grapes that go into this beauty are 100% estate and organically grown. Bottled totally dry (Brut Nature), it has aromas of hazelnut-spiked brioche stuffed with baked pear and Boston cream bursting out of the glass. The dry mouthfeel is medium-bodied with mouthwatering acidity that brings everything together in perfect harmony. We strongly recommend keeping a few bottles in your fridge at all times. Perfect choice for BYOB sushi and Thai!

Guimaro Ribeira Sacra Tinto 2015

90+ Our Score
90 Wine Advocate
92 John Gilman
(3/2017) "The 2015 Mencía from Adega Guímaro is an excellent wine, offering up a pure and complex bouquet of pomegranate, chicory, graphite, complex slate soil tones, a touch of blood orange and tree bark. On the palate the wine is pure, medium-full and transparent, with lovely focus and grip, good mid-palate depth and impressive intensity of flavor on the long, complex, tangy and modestly tannic finish. This is a fine, classic and light on its feet example of Amandi Mencía in the making and this is very, very impressive for an entry level bottling from Señor Rodríguez! 2017-2045."

Bodegas Cepa 21 "Hito" Ribera del Duero 2017

90 Our Score
(7/2019) From the family behind the great Ribera producer, Emilio Moro, Cepa 21 was launched nearly 20 years ago with a vision for a modern, fresher expression of the region. With a short, hot growing season and yields limited by spring frosts, the 2017 installment of their entry-level "Hito" offers excellent intensity. With eight months in seasoned oak, the depth of dark fruit and minerality take center stage here, with notes of black cherry, black currant, blackberry, graphite and smokey loam. We recommend an hour of decanting, and plenty of flank steak. Very delicious stuff here. Do not underestimate this wine!

(8/2016) "Pure Tempranillo fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured in barrel for some 14 months, this is a ripe and juicy 'crianza' that was hitting it on all cylinders when I tasted it, with vibrant fruit and very tasty flavors, truly delicious. Highly recommended and incredibly priced."

Jorge Ordonez Victoria #2 2014

95 Wine Advocate
(11/29/2015) "An absolutely amazing, decadent, luxurious sweet wine, made from 100% Moscatel de Alexandria, the 2014 Botani Victoria #2 comes from the estate's oldest 50-year-old vines and, according to Jorge Ordoñez, it takes 17 pounds of grapes to make one 375-milliliter bottle of this elixir. Truly great stuff, it has loads of honeysuckle, caramelized tropical fruits, hints of maple syrup and brown sugar. The wine is rich, fragrant with plenty of flowery notes intermixed with wet pebble-like minerality. It is full-bodied and unctuously textured, but has enough acidity to balance the sweet, rich texture. Drink it over the next 3-4 years."

Avancia "Cuvee de O" Valdeorras Mencia 2015

92 Wine Spectator
(12/31/2017) "Espresso, sanguine and gamey flavors give this firm red a savory character, but there's a core of plum and currant fruit. Offers a good balance of firm tannins, balsamic acidity and dense texture. Drink now through 2023. 1,000 cases made. Smart Buy"

Bodegas Aster Ribera del Duero Crianza 2012

91 Our Score
(12/2017) La Rioja Alta is one of the great producers in Rioja. Bodegas Aster is their estate in Ribera del Duero. While it is a Crianza, matured for one year in barrel, the focus here is on the pure black cherry of the Tempranillo grape. All about the fruit, the 2015 Aster is clean and bright, medium-to-full in body and softly textured with an ever so slight earth and mild vanilla character. A beautiful dry red to pair with red meat and stews. Think pot roast.

Bodegas Bhilar Rioja Blanco 2018

91 Our Score
(8/2019) Biodynamically produced from 90% Viura and 10% Garnacha Blanca, it is fermented in concrete then pressed off and placed in old French oak barrels for six months. The wine is then transferred back to stainless steel tanks where roughly half of the juice goes through malolactic conversion. The resulting wine is beautifully complex, with a golden orange hue and a slightly woodsy, oxidized style that is classic white Rioja. On the palate, this rich, completely dry and creamy wine offers fruit that leans to the citrus and pear side along with a very long finish that combines mineral, citrus and perfect acidity. The food pairings are practically unlimited. We are thinking roast chicken for starters.

Marques de Grinon "El Rincon" Vinos de Madrid Garnacha Tintonera 2015

Deep red strawberry, raspberry and cherry along with nuances of white pepper and chewy earth. Very concentrated. Lots of wine here.

(12/31/2017) "Savory aromas of coffee, tar and smoke give way to deeply fruity notes of blackberry and plum in this generous red. Sleek tannins focus the plush texture, and balsamic acidity keeps this fresh. Drink now through 2022. 2,083 cases made."

Llenca Plana Montsant 2016

90 Our Score
(12/2018) Ideally situated at one of the highest points in Montsant, this family-owned winery only makes one wine - and it is all about quality over quantity. Their commitment can be seen at every level of the winemaking process. Grapes are hand-harvested, gently destemmed and carefully selected. The result is this wonderfully balanced, food-friendly red with flavors of dark berries, garrigue, gravelly minerality and bramble. Pair with your favorite charcuterie plate, roast duck or grilled pork chops.
