Vigna Magna "6 Meses" Ribera del Duero 2016

91 Our Score
(4/2019) We are a more-than-solid 91 points on this 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) from a 125 acre organically farmed vineyard in the northernmost extreme of the region. We were very tempted to award it 92. Six months aging in French oak provides initial aromas of vanilla, oak and spicy cherry. There is an incredible balance of ripe fruit, oak, smoke and spice - and after a few swirls, it gains even more complexity. A wonderfully layered, mouthfilling and enjoyable wine with soft tannins on the finish.

Pere Mata "Cupada no. 20" Brut Reserve Cava (2015) NV

91 Our Score
(4/2019) The Pere Mata "Cupada no. 20" is a deliciously bone dry Spanish sparkler brought to us by the brilliant Champagne broker Thomas Calder. Though labelled as non-vintage, all of the fruit for this wine - a blend of the traditional Cava grapes, Macabeu, Xarel-lo and Parellada - comes from the 2015 vintage. This bubbly presents intense citrus fruits with just-ripe green apple tones along with generous concentration. Crisp and long, it will be perfect with spicy Asian food or fried chicken. So good!

Bodegas Bhilar "Lagrimas de Graciano" Rioja 2016

90+ Our Score
89 Wine Spectator
89 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(2/2019) "Lurid violet color. Primary, spice-tinged cherry and cassis scents are complemented by suggestions of licorice and cracked pepper. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavors that slowly flesh out on the back half. Dusty tannins shape and add grip to the finish, which hangs on with good, spicy tenacity. Drinking window: 2020 - 2025."
