(7/2020) 4 Monos is the moniker for four pals making incredible wine outside of Madrid, and they are particular champions of local varietal Albillo. The Gr10 Blanco is an Albillo-heavy blend (with co-stars Macabeo, Moscatel and Chelva) that is macerated whole-cluster, wild yeast fermented then left on the lees in neutral vessels for 6 months. The result is beautifully textured and round with aromas and flavors of pear nectar and papaya and notes of cheese rind on a limestone foundation. Its medium body is balanced by generous acidity and fruit, making it a knock-out for fans of Chablis or Savennieres.

(11/2020) "This is a village Garnacha from Las Rozas de Puerto Real, their first approach to the grape, trying to capture the essence of the fresh fruit and the fluidity of the wine. 2019 is a ripe vintage, and the wine is a little more powerful, juicy and balanced, with rich aromas and flavors. It comes from different plots of old vines ranging from 40 to 65 years of age and planted at some 900 meters in altitude on sandy granite soils in a zone that has plenty of rain, averaging 800 liters per year. Like all of their vineyards, these plots are worked organically and biodynamically. Each vineyard fermented separately in oak vats with indigenous yeasts with a soft maceration. The wine matured in oak vats of different sizes, ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 liters. The 2019 effect seems to be quite mild here; the wine follows the profile of the 2018, despite being a little riper, and it's still very balanced. There are notes of flowers, basil and a touch of bacon intermixed with the wild berries and herbs. There's a little more concentration, and the tannins are a little chalkier and more austere. But there is no excess ripeness or anything out of place, and it has acidity and length and finishes dry and mineral. Drink Date: 2021 - 2028."

(1/2020) Here's a beautiful Garnacha from the mountainous Sierra de Gredos region in Spain. Hand harvested from old bush vines, the grapes are fermented using native yeasts, aged six months in French oak barrels and another six months in steel tank. Pleasant floral aromas are followed by cherry, strawberry and orange peel. This yummy ripe fruit is flanked by stunning minerality, a slatey goodness that lingers on the beautiful finish. We're still tasting it! The depth, structure and mouthfeel for a bottle under $20 really surprised us. This is a food wine, so give it a try with some grilled meat or steak tacos.

(4/30/2019) "From a co-op in the Sierra de Gredos and all old-vine Grenache, the 2017 Granito De Cadalso comes from granite soils, was destemmed, and brought up all in concrete tanks. This Pinot Noir-like beauty offers notes of wild strawberries, rose hips, violets, and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, with remarkable purity and vibrancy, it still has ample power and richness. This is a fabulous expression of Grenache that's almost too good to be true. Maturity: 2019 - 2022"
