(12/2018) Ted Vance is the owner of The Source Imports. He perfectly illustrates why their newest Spanish producer is truly something special. "A blend of Prieto Picudo, Mencia and Alicante Bouschet, Las Jaras comes from vineyards located at the south of the Jamuz Valley. The soils are colder in this area with a higher content of iron and clay. The grapes were co-fermented over thirty-five days with native yeasts and 75% of its stems in large vertical French oak fermenters. After pressing, the wine is put back into the same large oak vat for nine months of aging. This is a wine of tension, vertical structure, texture and freshness imparted by its cold soils and the strong diurnal shift between day and nighttime temperatures. Once the cork is pulled the wine's frequency rings at a high tone and finds its footing within fifteen minutes and begins its vertical climb, which carries on with almost more strength into its second day."

(4/2019) We are a more-than-solid 91 points on this 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) from a 125 acre organically farmed vineyard in the northernmost extreme of the region. We were very tempted to award it 92. Six months aging in French oak provides initial aromas of vanilla, oak and spicy cherry. There is an incredible balance of ripe fruit, oak, smoke and spice - and after a few swirls, it gains even more complexity. A wonderfully layered, mouthfilling and enjoyable wine with soft tannins on the finish.
