Famille Dutraive "Cap O Sud" Corbiere Cinsault 2016

90+ Our Score
(8/2018) The Dutraive family, like many others in recent difficult harvests, have had to expand their horizons for sourcing grapes to produce their wines. This negociant project is sourcing Cinsault from Corbieres. It is very interesting to see these Southern French varietals through the Dutraive lens. These renditions are considerably more on the wild side than their Beaujolais bottlings. This is earthy and raw, with tons of energy and the first and only time this wine will be made!

Van Loggerenberg "Geronimo" Stellenbosch Cinsault 2017

91 Vinous, Neal Martin
91+ Our Score
(10/2018) Another new South African find, this time from an exciting producer in the Stellenbosch region. Alive with great energy and freshness, this 100% whole cluster Cinsault reminds us of a wine from one of Kermit Lynch's natural growers in the Languedoc. Red fruit flavors, floral notes and pepper intermingle beautifully. This medium-bodied wine has the capability of drinking well for days after opening. Young Lukas Van Loggerenberg is bottling some seriously distinctive wines, and his "Geronimo" is delightful.

A Los Vinateros Bravos "El Tunel" Itata Valley Cinsault 2016

90+ Our Score
(8/2018) "El Tunel" comes from old vine Cinsault grown in winemaker Leonardo Erazo's home vineyard. Average age of these old vines is 60 years old, not too shabby to have in your backyard! Vines this old are a common occurrence in the far flung southern reaches of Itata, many averaging far, far older. This idilic region is where Leonardo has come to embrace traditional winemaking techniques and show reverence to these old vines. Everything is farmed organically, as it has been for generations. The granite soils impart these old vines with beautiful deep mineral tones, with threads of spice and smoke weaving their way around the core of delicate red fruits. Fermented and aged in concreted to preserve freshness, this is entirely made by hand from start to finish in very small batches. Southern Chile is churning out some amazing revelations, and the quality in this traditionally made wine is impressive. Lovely now, this will also age rather gracefully for the next handful of years.

La Boutanche Vin de France Cinsault 2016 1.0 LT

89 Our Score
(6/2017) Martin Texier is now firmly at the helm of the Rhone La Boutanche line and he is crafting some very tasty wines! The fruit is sourced from the St. Julien-St Alban region, that his father Eric famously revived, and comes from meticulously farmed vineyards. Martin is using a technique he calls "infusion", where he is essentially making a red wine in the manner typically used for whites. The end result is a delicately structured red with very fine tannins and dizzying aromatics. The nose is just simply gorgeous. Don't forget to add a slight chill.

Radford Dale "THIRST" Stellenbosch Cinsault 2017

90 Our Score
(8/2018) Radford Dale's "Thirst" line is aptly named. When one's thirst needs to be slaked, this is what you should reach for! This is old bush vine Cinsault from Stellenbosch that undergoes carbonic maceration. This series is supposed to represent place and site and are made naturally. Nothing is added, and nothing taken away, simply juice. This is super fresh and vibrant, with bursting red fruits and just a touch of spiciness to complement the palate. You just want to simply drink this wine! And at 10% ABV, this is one crushable way to take care of your "Thirst!"

Mount Abora "Saffraan" Swartland Cinsault 2016

90+ Our Score
(9/2018) South African Cinsault quality is at a high point now and this bottling rocks! "Saffraan" is from 38-year-old bush vines on deep shale and schist soils in the Swartland. It's dry farmed, whole-cluster is used, then spends nine months in used 300-liter French oak barrels. The palate is zesty and energetic, fresh strawberry, cranberry, and black peppers mingle together with great acidic structure. There is a slightly dusty, red earth component that blends well with the subtle smokiness, like an old bushfire. Massively drinkable, be sure to chill slightly.
