Occhipinti "Il Frappato" Terre Siciliane Rosso 2015

94 James Suckling
94 Vinous, Ian D'Agata
(9/2017) "Bright red. Perfumed red cherry, minerals and fresh flowers on the captivating nose. Then rich and thick, with clean flavors of red berries and candied violet boasting noteworthy inner-mouth perfume. Finishes long and fresh, with a repeating note of violet and a hint of strawberry. This light-bodied, perfumed, lovely red is yet another in a long line of delicious Frappato wines from this producer; it's a wine that offers a ton of flavor, bright acids and floral lift, but only 13% alcohol. Well done."

Occhipinti "Il Frappato" Terre Siciliane Rosso 2016

Another beauty from Arianna Occhipinti, bounding with bing cherry flavors and a mouth-wateringly stony character

(2/28/2018) "The 2016 Il Frappato is another surprise hit from a vintage that was not easy generally speaking. This wine is chiseled and focused, showing a pretty mineral note that is carried forth from start to finish. The wine is delicate and finessed with small berry nuances, dried blackberry, cherry and pencil shaving. This is an elegant and graceful red wine from Sicily.

Terre di Giurfo "Belsito" Vittoria Frappato 2017

90 Our Score
(11/2018) Not his most-expensive or "ambitious" wine, but this is producer Acille Alessi's favorite wine. At a recent dinner, he explained to us his reasons for preferring it, which match our own! We love the flexibility and supreme drinkability of this underrated grape. There is a very lifted, energetic undercurrent, with a touch of fun grapiness to accent bright cherry and floral aromatics. A red that can pair-down with lighter fair like salumi and fish dishes, while still holding its own with more intense red meat or even high-spiced Moroccan fare! Use this as you might use Cru Beaujolais, Pinot Noir or even Dolcetto from the North, serve with a chill if you'd like! Any place Frappato is around is indeed a "beautiful place".
