The Fableist "426" Edna Valley Gruner Veltliner 2018

90+ Our Score
(6/2019) Do you remember the awesome "Hans Gruner" cans from Andrew Jones we carried the past two summers? Well, now that Andrew has sold off his canning operation, he is putting that gorgeous Grüner Veltliner into bottles! This delicious and refreshing "Gru-V" comes from Paragon and Morro View vineyards in Edna Valley. It is aged in a combination of 80% stainless steel tank and 20% neutral barrel. The result is a bright, nearly full-bodied wine with mouthwatering citrus zest, fresh pear, ripe peach and a dash of white pepper on the long finish. This is a serious effort that is going to make a wide range of white wine lovers VERY happy.

Wimmer-Czerny "Fumberg" Gruner Veltliner 2017

93 Wine Advocate
(12/28/2018) "Hans Czerny's 2017 Grüner Veltliner Fumberg is a picture book "GV" from the Wagram. The subtle bouquet is bright, fine and fresh but also ripe and just beautifully balanced, with a very delicate and fresh, even flinty-scented aroma. Highly delicate and elegant on the palate, this is a stimulating, piquant and salty Veltliner with both tension and finesse. It is also stimulatingly pure and salty in the finish. For many, many years this has been one of my favorite Grooners in all Austria because it is so delicate, like almost no other wine from this variety. If you are looking for the finest Veltliners of the 2017 vintage, Czerny's highly delicious, biodynamic 2017 Fumberg should be one of your choices. Tasted in Vienna, September 2018. Drink Date 2018 - 2033."

Nigl "Freiheit" Niederosterreich Gruner Veltliner 2017

92 Wine Spectator
(1/17/2019) "The 2016 Nigl bottling of this vibrant white was included in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2018. Martin Nigl, who owns the winery with his family and is the winemaker, blends Grüner grapes from four different parcels in Kremstal. He practices sustainable farming, never using pesticides, which helps bring out vitality in the plants. The wine is spontaneously fermented in stainless-steel tanks, allowing the terroir to shine through. An exuberant style, gaining a fizzy impression from the minerality. The core expresses peach, tarragon and cardamom details, but the savoriness takes the front seat. Very well-built, with focused acidity and a vivid structure. Echoing finish. Drink now through 2027."

(10/2018) This tasty Gru-V from Rainer Wess sings of fresh peach and apricot with classic notes of white pepper and clean minerality. The palate is fleshy and round with a bit of extra baby fat that will stand up to roast chicken or pork. The finish is long and delicious. Typical retail on this great value is $17. As usual, we're a few bucks less!

(7/1/2018) "Ripe yellow pear on the nose is also apparent on the very easy light juicy palate. The slightly dilute palate benefits from tangy citrus on the dry finish."
