(8/30/2019) "A lean and light Sangiovese, the 2017 Perlato del Bosco has a great tonic freshness to it. Yields of this fruit were down by 40% in this hot vintage, an early harvest was scheduled in order to avoid any jammy notes. (The rest of the fruit that didn't pass the early selection at harvest went into some of the estates lower-tier wines, such as the Rosso dei Notri.) The result here is a fresh and crunchy red to match with a cheesy pasta such as cacio e pepe. Drink Date 2019 - 2026."

(12/2020) This is a great example of the work that winemakers do in the winery. Composed of an absolute smorgasbord of grape varieties (Grenache, Cinsault, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chenin Blanc) some might dismiss this blend on paper. However, when a winemaker has a particular vision, it can really shine through in the glass. At BLANKbottle they value the natural expression of the fruit their unique terroir gives them. In "Master of None" you get lively aromas of cherry, raspberry, cranberry and wildflowers. While the nose is inviting, light-hearted and fun, on the palate this wine REALLY delivers the goods. There's a bouncy liveliness here often found in great Beaujolais. Light-bodied with great acidity, this wine is perfect for a myriad of different foods; roasted chicken, barbecue and seafood jump to the front of our minds!

(9/2020) 81% Lemberger with the remainder Cabernet Franc and Merlot, the grapes were fermented with indigenous yeast and aged separately on lees for three months before blending and a further two months of aging. Assisted by the Niagara Peninsula's cool climate, the result is medium-bodied and deliciously lively, with juicy aromas and flavors of black cherry and cranberry, accompanied by hints of dried leaves and licorice. Great for lovers of Pinot Noir and Gamay, this is a delightfully fun wine from a serious producer.

"The work of this "New Gang of Four", both in the vineyard and winery, is currently focused on exploring exceptional vineyard plots across the Iberian Peninsula. The Envinate philosophy is simple: let each parcela, or single parcel, fully express itself in the finished wine by utilizing old-fashioned farming and winemaking methods. The results are some of the most exciting wines being produced in Spain today. Albahra (Castilian for "small sea") is named for the vineyard area in the Almansa region close to the town of Albacete. Garnacha Tintorera (aka Alicante Bouschet, a red-juiced grape) is blended with Moravia Agria (a high-acid, low alcohol grape) from a single vineyard in neighboring Manchuela. All grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately by parcel. The Garnacha Tintorera is foot-trodden in vat with 30-50% stems included and 6-10 days skin maceration, then fermented and raised on fine lees in concrete for 8 months; the Moravia Agria is completely destemmed and sees 7 days maceration before being pressed and raised on fine lees in 228L used French barriques for 8 months, all without battonage. The wine is then blended and bottled unfined, unfiltered and with very little SO2 addition. This is a wine with a pure high-toned nose, floral red fruit, with hints of spice and bursting with minerality. An extremely versatile food wine, especially with Mediterranean meats and seafood."

(1/31/2020) "The 2018 Pessimist is a barrel sample blend of 62% Petite Sirah, 19% Zinfandel, 17% Syrah and 2% Lagrein. It is expected to age for 11 months in 50% new French oak. Opaque ruby-purple, it offers up tar, chargrill, turned black earth and blackcurrants with wafts of blackcurrant bud, dark chocolate, smoked meats and crushed red cherries. The medium to full-bodied palate has lifted flavor layers, a firm, grainy frame and long, spicy, fresh finish."
