Bodegas El Nido "El Nido" Jumilla 2015

95 Wine Advocate
(12/29/2017) "Following the style of the Clio from the same vintage, the 2015 El Nido is a powerful, ripe and concentrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Monastrell aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 23 months. It's bottled with 16% alcohol, not a shy wine but not one that shows heat, as it keeps the balance in an XL way. It feels concentrated, powerful and young, but the oak is surprisingly more integrated than in the 2014. As it happens with many wines, this is not for everybody, as it has a marked style, but for those who like this profile, this could very well be the finest vintage of El Nido to date. It can be had with powerful food, but it should be better with a few years in bottle. 5,500 bottles were filled in September 2017. Drink Date: 2019 - 2030."

Familia Nin-Ortiz "Nit de Nin" Priorat 2015

97 Wine Advocate
(4/27/2018) "The Nit de Nin family has grown with the addition of a new vineyard. The wine produced since 2003 comes from Mas d'en Cacador-this was always named on the label, but it is now also specified in the wine name to distinguish between the new vineyard. The 2015 Nit de Nin Mas d'en Cacador comes from the vineyard mentioned in the name, a famous place in Porrera planted with old vines of Garnacha Negra, Garnacha Peluda and Carinena. It fermented in an oak vat with indigenous yeasts and matured in a similar vat for 18 months. It's heady and ripe, exuberant and very open, a hedonistic, round and lush wine. The palate reveals very fine tannins and great harmony. Drink Date 2018 - 2025."

92+ Wine Advocate
92 Wine Spectator
93 Jeb Dunnuck
(2/21/2018) "A blend of 65% Garnacha, 25% Cariñena and 10% Syrah, the 2015 Salanques comes from a steep, three-hectare vineyard located near the village of Poboleda. This deep ruby/purple colored beauty offers a stunning bouquet of blueberries, raspberries, violets, and hints of resinous herbs and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with a light, graceful, elegant texture that just glides across the palate, It's not huge, but has plenty of intensity and length. Maturity: 2018 - 2028."

Cume do Avia "Dos Canotos" Ribiero Tinto 2017

90+ Our Score
(5/2019) From Ribeiro's new natural winemakers at Cume do Avia, the medium-bodied Dos Canotos strikes a fine balance between the inky Souson that comprises the majority of the blend and the brightness and backbone of the remaining Caino Longo and Brancellao. Farmed organically and biodynamically and then aged in century-old chestnut vats, the aromas and flavors of fresh violets stirred into wild red and blackberries and dried herbs emulate something like the ripeness of Gamay crossed with the black-fruited earthiness of Northern Rhone Syrah. Though its refreshing acidity and bright fruit make it delicious out of the gates, its healthy structure and deep-rooted layers would benefit from a brief decanting, and even a year in the cellar.

Bodegas Bhilar "Terca" Rioja Blanco 2010

93 Wine Advocate
(4/29/2015) "The classically proportioned 2010 Terca is sourced from two clay-rich old vineyards from the Elvillar village in the Rioja Alavesa subzone, mostly Viura with some 10% Malvasía Riojana (aka Alarije) produced with Sampedro's unusual modus operandi for these low-quantity whites: the grapes are hand-harvested into 400-liter containers and on arrival at the winery the whole bunches are foot trodden and they stay there macerating with the stems and skins for a week until fermentation starts. Then they are pressed, and finish fermenting in used 500-liter oak barrels where the wine ages for two years. It feels a little neutral with quite an imprint from the elevage, in the style of the white Riojas form yesteryear. It is evolving slowly with shy aromas of chamomile and aromatic herbs, hints of beeswax and honey, all of it in a subtle way. It has a solid palate showing good balance, which should secure it a nice evolution in bottle. Drink Date: 2015 - 2022."

Herencia Altes "La Serra Negre" Terra Alta Carinyena/Garnatxa Negra 2015

Only a few cases available of this tiny-production, single-vineyard gem...
93+ Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "The 2015 La Serra Negre is a blend of old-vine Cariñena with 20% Garnacha from a single vineyard that names the wine. I see a lot less oak here, and the wines are showing better balance, more purity and letting the terroir shine through. This is a great Cariñena with the floral and tree bark notes, both earthy and ethereal. The palate shows some grainy, chalky tannins that provide a very tasty, almost salty finish. 2,000 bottles produced."

Galia Vino de Mesa 2013

94+ Wine Advocate
(10/29/2015) "The 2013 Galia is mostly old-vine Tempranillo with some 7% Garnacha from very old vineyards in different villages around the Duero River. The grapes from different soils fermented separately with indigenous yeasts and one third full clusters, except the Garnacha which was 100% full-cluster. The different lots matured separately for some 19 months, most in used 225- and 600-liter French barriques and part in egg-shaped cement vats. This is again extremely fresh, floral, almost citric, open, exuberant, elegant and harmonious with no traces of oak whatsoever. It's hard to decide between this and the 2012, and at the end of the day, they are slightly different; here it is spicier with a faint herbal touch, but finally at a very similar qualitative level. Both wines reflect very well what each vintage was, but with a common thread of the same places and grapes. This is an awesome value. Drink Date: 2016 - 2023."

Dominio del Urogallo "La Zorrina Vineyard" Asturias Red Blend 2013 NR

90 Our Score
(2/2019) Urogallo is a project from Nicolas Marcos, based in Spain's northwestern coastal region of Asturias. Here his focus is indigenous varietals, biodynamically farmed and fermented without additives or filtration. Pulled from his La Zorrina vineyard, this wine is a blend of mostly Carrasquin with the remainder a mosaic of other indigenous grapes. Whole-cluster fermentation takes place in open containers, followed by aging in old French oak. The result has ripe red berries and tomato leaf on the nose with more crushed berries on the palate. Full-bodied but energetic with a touch of tannin, this beautiful wine is at perfect maturity and ready for the dinner table.

Bodegas Atalaya "Alaya Tierra" Almansa 2014

A hedonistic powerhouse! Pure fruit. Pure power, Pure fun.
92 Our Score
92 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(10/2016) "(Fermented in small stainless steel tanks and aged for 15 months in new French and American oak barrels) Inky purple. Powerful, smoke- and oak-spiced aromas of dark berries, pipe tobacco and candied violet, along with a suave mineral topnote. Fleshy blackberry and blueberry liqueur flavors show excellent clarity and enlivening Asian spice and cracked pepper qualities. Finishes impressively long and sweet, delivering a resonating echo of candied dark berries, lingering spiciness and supple tannins. Drinking window: 2019 - 2025."
