Azienda Agricola COS "Pithos" Vittoria Rosso 2014

91 Wine Advocate
(10/2015) "The 2014 Pithos Rosso is a little rustic in places with a rough entry followed by compelling aromas of dried cherry and cassis. This wine is famously aged in clay amphora that are buried underground to keep temperature and moisture levels intact. COS was one of the first estates in Sicily to use amphora for aging and refining its wines. It started a trend that has gained much popularity today. A wine like this does a great job of bringing you, the consumer, closer to Sicily. You really taste the earth and the vineyard here. Slightly smoky notes of ash and mineral round off the wine's fruity core."

Desparada "Soothsayer" Paso Robles Red Blend 2016

92+ Our Score
(10/2018) Vailia From has made another stunner! A totally unconventional blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Barbera, her 2016 Soothsayer is deep, rich, ripe and - most importantly - insanely well balanced. The red and black fruits really pop, including brambly raspberry, black cherry, black plum, blackberry compote and a wisp of strawberry fields. Just when you think the avalanche of fruit is all you will get, you'll find complementary flavors of purple flowers, nutmeg, fresh cracked black pepper, vanilla and milk chocolate. Holy cow, there is just a ton of stuff happening here!

Bedrock Wine Co. "Evangelho Vineyard" Contra Costa County Red 2017

92 Our Score
(10/2018) "The Bedrock team now owns a large portion of this famed vineyard. Blending several old vines together to make this site-based red. It's about the place, which Bedrock describes..."Own-rooted on forty-foot-deep banks of beach sand alongside the Sacramento River Delta, Evangelho is a totally unique site. Planted in the 1890s, the vineyard is a viticultural survivor-wedged between a PG&E plant, a Burger King, and a motel that rents rooms by the hour. A field-blend of Zinfandel, Carignane, Mourvedre, and others, the wines are fresh, bright, and typically have some of the lowest pHs of any of the Bedrock wines." Special juice."

Cume do Avia "Dos Canotos" Ribiero Tinto 2017

90+ Our Score
(5/2019) From Ribeiro's new natural winemakers at Cume do Avia, the medium-bodied Dos Canotos strikes a fine balance between the inky Souson that comprises the majority of the blend and the brightness and backbone of the remaining Caino Longo and Brancellao. Farmed organically and biodynamically and then aged in century-old chestnut vats, the aromas and flavors of fresh violets stirred into wild red and blackberries and dried herbs emulate something like the ripeness of Gamay crossed with the black-fruited earthiness of Northern Rhone Syrah. Though its refreshing acidity and bright fruit make it delicious out of the gates, its healthy structure and deep-rooted layers would benefit from a brief decanting, and even a year in the cellar.

Ampeleia "Ampeleia" Toscana Rosso 2013

96 James Suckling
(11/9/2016) "Very pretty aromas of dark fruits with rosemary and sea-like undertones. Full-bodied, layered and dense, yet there's an underlying energy that brings you back to savor each sip. Lovely to drink now but will improve with age. From biodynamically grown grapes."

Bodegas Bhilar "Terca" Rioja Blanco 2010

93 Wine Advocate
(4/29/2015) "The classically proportioned 2010 Terca is sourced from two clay-rich old vineyards from the Elvillar village in the Rioja Alavesa subzone, mostly Viura with some 10% Malvasía Riojana (aka Alarije) produced with Sampedro's unusual modus operandi for these low-quantity whites: the grapes are hand-harvested into 400-liter containers and on arrival at the winery the whole bunches are foot trodden and they stay there macerating with the stems and skins for a week until fermentation starts. Then they are pressed, and finish fermenting in used 500-liter oak barrels where the wine ages for two years. It feels a little neutral with quite an imprint from the elevage, in the style of the white Riojas form yesteryear. It is evolving slowly with shy aromas of chamomile and aromatic herbs, hints of beeswax and honey, all of it in a subtle way. It has a solid palate showing good balance, which should secure it a nice evolution in bottle. Drink Date: 2015 - 2022."

Herencia Altes "La Serra Negre" Terra Alta Carinyena/Garnatxa Negra 2015

Only a few cases available of this tiny-production, single-vineyard gem...
93+ Wine Advocate
(10/28/2016) "The 2015 La Serra Negre is a blend of old-vine Cariñena with 20% Garnacha from a single vineyard that names the wine. I see a lot less oak here, and the wines are showing better balance, more purity and letting the terroir shine through. This is a great Cariñena with the floral and tree bark notes, both earthy and ethereal. The palate shows some grainy, chalky tannins that provide a very tasty, almost salty finish. 2,000 bottles produced."

Ilatium "Campo Leon" Amarone della Valpolicella 2013

92+ Our Score
(2/2019) Checking in at 16%, the Ilatium "Campo Leon" Amarone is a huge wine! Powerfully concentrated, it delivers flavors of smoky dark black fruits and coffee along with hints of new French and American oak. A blend of 70% Corvina, 20% Rondinella and the rest Croatina and Oseleta, it would be a brilliant match with slow-cooked winter stews and hearty soups!

Chateau Cantemerle Haut-Medoc 2015

91 Jeb Dunnuck
95 James Suckling
90 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(2/2018) "One of the sleepers of the vintage, the 2015 Cantemerle is even better from bottle than it was from barrel. Dark cherry, plum, licorice, new leather and tobacco all flesh out in this inviting, resonant Haut-Medoc. A wine with gorgeous presence and no hard edges, Cantemerle captures all the sheer early appeal of the vintage. Cantemerle is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, with dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drinking window: 2018 - 2023."

Galia Vino de Mesa 2013

94+ Wine Advocate
(10/29/2015) "The 2013 Galia is mostly old-vine Tempranillo with some 7% Garnacha from very old vineyards in different villages around the Duero River. The grapes from different soils fermented separately with indigenous yeasts and one third full clusters, except the Garnacha which was 100% full-cluster. The different lots matured separately for some 19 months, most in used 225- and 600-liter French barriques and part in egg-shaped cement vats. This is again extremely fresh, floral, almost citric, open, exuberant, elegant and harmonious with no traces of oak whatsoever. It's hard to decide between this and the 2012, and at the end of the day, they are slightly different; here it is spicier with a faint herbal touch, but finally at a very similar qualitative level. Both wines reflect very well what each vintage was, but with a common thread of the same places and grapes. This is an awesome value. Drink Date: 2016 - 2023."
