This deep ruby/purple colored beauty offers a stunning bouquet of blueberries, raspberries, violets, and hints of resinous herbs and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, with a light, graceful, elegant texture that just glides across the palate, It's not huge, but has plenty of intensity and length. Maturity: 2018 - 2028."

Didier Meuzard Ratafia de Bourgogne NV
Only three cases of this Kermit Lynch Imported Burgundian dessert wine made it to Chicago!
Winemaker's Notes
"Master Distiller Didier Meuzard's goal was to change the perception of Ratafia from rustic to elegant, harsh to gentle. Working with some top growers in the Cote de Nuits, Didier takes freshly harvested Pinot Noir and Gamay grapes and puts them in tank, exactly as if he were going to make a red wine. The trick is to prevent the juice from beginning to ferment! As soon as Didier tastes fermentation on the horizon, he presses off the juice from the skins and then cuts it with a third of his own one-year-old fine. The spirit kills the yeast and the ratafia is born! Didier puts it in old enameled tanks for several months, constantly tasting. When all is harmonious, he bottles his tank, by hand, one bottle at a time. The result is aromas of earth, red Burgundy, and fresh fruit, with only the slightest hint of the fine, which stays in the background and lets the fruit do the talking. The palate is soft and velvety, and the sweetness is tamed and enhanced by the fine, with all coming together seamlessly. You can drink it with dessert, certainly, but you can also do as Didier suggests and just drink it on its own. Didier does recommend drinking it at cellar temperature, with just the slightest chill. There's no need to finish the bottle with any great haste. It will keep several months once opened, much like a great port."

Winemaker's Notes
"Beckham Estate Vineyard is perched on the flank of Parrett Mountain in Oregon's Chehalem Mountains AVA. The A.D. Beckham wines are a convergence of two passions- ceramics and wine. The terra cotta amphorae used to make these wines are handcrafted in Andrew's studio on our vineyard. Syrah and Viognier fruit was de-stemmed and the Viognier fruit was partially pressed with a portion of juice removed and used in another blend. The remaining Viognier juice and skins were added to the Syrah resulting in an approximate 83% Syrah and 17% Viognier co-ferment in amphora with no added commercial yeast or SO2 additions."

(3/2018) A household name in the town of Ajaccio, Abbatucci represents wines that truly express the terroir of the island of Corsica. At his biodynamic estate Jean-Charles oversees, not just vineyard, but an entire ecosystem complete with sheep and olive trees. The 'Cuvee Faustine' is 70% Sciaccarellu and 30% Niellucciu fermented in stainless steel vats and raised in cement tank. The wine shows unbelievable freshness, with spicy red fruit, olive brine, and smoked meat. Dusty earth and intense minerality round out the palate for a wine that is so rustic and comforting, yet expressive and complex, all at the same time.

(5/2019) From Ribeiro's new natural winemakers at Cume do Avia, the medium-bodied Dos Canotos strikes a fine balance between the inky Souson that comprises the majority of the blend and the brightness and backbone of the remaining Caino Longo and Brancellao. Farmed organically and biodynamically and then aged in century-old chestnut vats, the aromas and flavors of fresh violets stirred into wild red and blackberries and dried herbs emulate something like the ripeness of Gamay crossed with the black-fruited earthiness of Northern Rhone Syrah. Though its refreshing acidity and bright fruit make it delicious out of the gates, its healthy structure and deep-rooted layers would benefit from a brief decanting, and even a year in the cellar.

This wine is famously aged in clay amphora that are buried underground to keep temperature and moisture levels intact. COS was one of the first estates in Sicily to use amphora for aging and refining its wines. It started a trend that has gained much popularity today. A wine like this does a great job of bringing you, the consumer, closer to Sicily. You really taste the earth and the vineyard here. Slightly smoky notes of ash and mineral round off the wine's fruity core."

A totally unconventional blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon and 41% Barbera, her 2016 Soothsayer is deep, rich, ripe and - most importantly - insanely well balanced. The red and black fruits really pop, including brambly raspberry, black cherry, black plum, blackberry compote and a wisp of strawberry fields. Just when you think the avalanche of fruit is all you will get, you'll find complementary flavors of purple flowers, nutmeg, fresh cracked black pepper, vanilla and milk chocolate. Holy cow, there is just a ton of stuff happening here!
