6/30/2026) This broad red displays plum, black cherry, earth, iron, sanguine and tomato leaf flavors, with dense, burly tannins underlining everything as this plays out on the compact finish. The flavors indicate this is ready, but the tannins still need time. Best from 2029 through 2050. 1,100 cases made, 400 cases imported.

(6/2024) The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigne di Montornello is terrific. Bright, aromatic and punchy, the 2021 captures all the energy of this superb vintage. Orange peel, crushed rocks, mint, spice and cedar meld into a core of Sangiovese fruit. Pretty floral overtones life the finish effortlessly. There is a bit of tightness in the tannins, so a year or two of cellaring feels warranted. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2036.
