Importer's Notes: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha Tinta planted in 1990 to sandy calcareous clay topsoil over limestone bedrock at 650m in Rioja Alavesa. Hand-selected in vineyard & cellar. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts in concrete vat for 20 days with soft crushing and gentle pump-overs. Aging: Malolactic fermentation and 15 months in French oak barrels. Bottled with no refining or stabilization. It captures the freshness, purity, and limestone-driven precision that characterize the northern vineyards of Laguardia. 3870 bottles produced.

(2/2024) Established between 1990 and 1995, Valcavada is a 1.56-hectare next to the Gil family's bodega outside Laguardia. Pairing Tempranillo with 20% Garnacha, with ageing in older French oak, it has some subtle reduction, lots of minerality, appealing focus, balance and energy and a sappy red berry and pomegranate finish. 2024-30
