What Critics Think
James Suckling : 96 Points
(2/5/2023) A refined expression of carmenere from the hot and dry 2020 vintage. Youthful black cherries, currants and chocolate. Creamy and round on the palate with generous fruit. The polished tannins are evenly rendered. Long and silky. Marcio Ramirez harvested this on April 18, the earliest harvest ever for this carmenere. Drink or hold.

(4/6/2023) The 2020 Carmín de Peumo was cropped from a warm and dry vintage and is a blend of Carmenere with 4% each Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, with 14.9% alcohol and a pH of 3.44. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in French oak barrels, 85% of them new, for 13 months. The warmer and riper year delivered a rounder and gentler wine, with a gentler palate, with ripe flavors and some dusty tannins. 6,600 bottles were filled in October 2021. For comparison, they opened a 2013, which showed intensely animal with pungent aromas of tempera paint, and a much cleaner 2010, but the current vintages show much more focus and varietal character, much more purity. Drink Date: 2023 - 2029.
