What Critics Think
John Gilman : 93 Points
(8/2023) The 2020 vintage is the first where Jean-Luc Mouillard decided to become certified organic for his farming, though he has been farming in this manner already for many years and he anticipates being certified in time for this year’s harvest. His 2020 Pinot Noir tips the scales at thirteen percent octane and offers up a simply superb aromatic constellation of black cherries, sweet dark berries, dark chocolate, chalky soil tones, violets and just a hint of oak from the older barrels in which the wine is raised. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, youthful and shows a lovely sense of sappiness in its core of black fruit, with fine soil undertow and grip, ripe, seamless tannins and excellent focus and balance on the long, complex and very classy finish. This needs some bottle age to blossom completely, but it is clearly going to be an outstanding example of pinot noir once it is ready to drink. Drink between 2030 - 2065.
