What We Think
Vin Chicago: 91 Points
(9/2026) A direct assault of classic Northern Rhone Syrah markers are aimed at your palate from this up-and-coming producer, imported by Kermit Lynch. Bastian Jolivet inherited his family's domaine in 2014, and instead of selling grapes to the co-op in Tain, he began crafting their own bottlings and buying additional smart vineyard holdings. The focus of the organically-farmed operation is in Saint-Joseph, but this bottling is from 100 meters outside that boundary: on four hectares of high-elevation, granite-soiled sites in Lemps. He uses 30% whole cluster and strictly stainless steel here, a wine named after the man who had previously tended these vines. Peppery, meaty tones of black cherry and mineral-laced red plum are ensconced in fresh lavender and violets. So immediate, varietally correct and pure - it's a joy, from a name to watch.
