What We Think
Vin Chicago: 92+ Points
(10/2026) A beauty of an old-school, single-MGA Barbaresco from a forward, mid-weight vintage for the region. A nice synergy! Cavanna lays in the center of the village of Barbarbaresco and Giordano's section ends with a sheer cliff dropoff above the Tanaro river. A 25-30 day maceration occurs in stainless steel before 14-18 months of aging in large, old Slavonian botti - up to 5000 liters in size! Clean, ummistakable Nebbiolo with pixel-perfect delineation - it offers plenty of chew for traditionalists, but without heft or excess. Floral, red fruit, blood orange and fine-boned structure is achingly pretty. This is the only single-vineyard bottling of Cavanna that there is, and belongs at the dinner table anytime over the next 7-12 years. We love it.
