What We Think
Vin Chicago: 92+ Points
(2/2025) From the village of Khashmi, in the vital Georgian subregion of Kakheti, you find the finest of all Saperavi. Sandy red limestone clay boasts high iron content that gives mineral backbone to this native variety with a name that translates to 'dye.' Indeed, its thick black skin and pink juice contribute an extremely deep color in your glass. Unquestionably a noble red grape, all the ingredients are here: Full-bodied, lively, layered structure with deep dark fruit, complexity, and age-ability. Raised in traditional clay qvevri, it delivers notes of fresh tart blackberry, cocoa powder, dried cherry, steeped plums, Earl Gray tea, cigar, and leather. Cabernet Sauvignon fans, step right up for something new from the oldest of the Old World!
