What Critics Think
Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo : 96 Points
(4/2026) Complex tertiary expression marks the 2005 Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia, aged 10 years in 225-liter American oak. Framed by dried flowers, evolved wood, underbrush and soft herbs, the layered flavors show cola, strawberry and delicate leather. Compact and chalky yet graceful, it delivers classical Rioja depth and length. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2050.

(3/12/2026) The 2005 Viña Tondonia Gran Reserva has a more Mediterranean profile with aromas of fennel and thyme, with a core of red fruit, a velvety and round palate and fine, polished tannins. In comparison with the Bosconia Gran Reserva, this is more austere and serious. It was produced with 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho and the rest Graciano and Mazuelo, fermented in the old oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in those old vats and well-seasoned American oak barrels for 14 years. It has a contained 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.4 and 6.6 grams of acidity. Drink Date: 2026 - 2036.
