Winemaker's Notes
This new addition to the Valgiano wines was born from the management of the vineyards of our neighbors scattered on the hills between San Pietro a Marcigliano and Sant’Andrea in Caprile. Tenuta di Valgiano buys the grapes at the time of harvest and then vinifies them in its cellar, following the practices that have always been implemented: de-stemming and pressing with the feet in small vats. The ageing takes place partly in cement and partly in used oak barriques. A blend of mainly Sangiovese with a bit of Merlot from Alberese limestone marl soils, it is a beautiful Tuscan wine: bright and intense red, fruity, ripe and enveloping aromas. Soft and fused tannins in the fruity structure, juicy and pleasant with medium body. A perfect wine for any meal.
What We Think
Vin Chicago: 90+ Points
The label for the Tenuta di Valgiano "Mazzapink" Toscana Rosso 2023 shows a town square flowing endlessly with wine, and when we tasted this bottle, we didn't want it to stop flowing either. This blend of Sangiovese and Merlot has well-integrated, soft tannins that give structure to a lusciously red fruit-laden body. With rich raspberry and red currant flavors emanating from the glass, "Mazzapink" kept inviting us back for more, and kept delivering on being exceptionally tasty! Medium-bodied and effortlessly juicy, this is a wine we can envision going with almost any dish, but are particularly excited about popping it open alongside some sausage and onion pizza or mozzarella sticks!
