Reminding us of some of the magical $100 wines of famed Loire grower Didier Dagueneau, the 2017 Le Chene Fourchu is one of the most distinctive Sancerres we have ever featured!
93+ Our Score (1/2020) Anthony Girard crafts this special wine from a one hectare parcel of 45-year-old vines growing in pure limestone soils. Following fermentation, he ages half of the wine in concrete amphora and half in wood barrels, some of which are new. The use of oak, which is rather unusual for the region, provides a creamy mouthfeel, rich texture and flavors of vanilla and spice that sit atop a classic Sancerre frame of chalky minerality, high-toned citrus fruit and lively, refreshing acidity. Sancerre drinkers will appreciate the purity of the core qualities of this wood-scented, velvety-textured bottling. There's something there too for those who love upper-tier white Bordeaux and even white Burgundy. This complex and delicious wine is outstanding now, and will continue to improve over the next 3-5 years.

If you are not familiar with the area, best to use GPS or some online directions because our store is a bit tricky to find!
