Cockburn Vintage Port 2016

Email
Varietal: Red Blend
Region: Douro
Color: Red
Country/State: Portugal
96 Wine Spectator (12/31/2018) "This is quite primal, with lush waves of plum, blackberry and acai berry reduction rolling through, pushed by warm licorice and Black Forest cake notes. A substantial bass line thumps on the finish, showing plenty of sparkly spice and incense details hitting the top range. Best from 2030 through 2050. 2,450 cases made, 1,500 cases imported."
95 Wine Enthusiast (12/1/2018) "The wine has structure, swathes of juicy fruit and acidity along with fine tannins. It is certainly balanced with deliciously luscious fruit, and a rich texture that is suggesting good aging potential. Drink from 2028."
96 Decanter (5/29/2018) "A Douro Superior blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca supported by Sousao and Alicante Bouschet. Relatively closed and restrained on the nose but with an underlying ripeness with intense dark cassis backed by powerful yet fine-grained tannins, big and broad on the finish. This is a wine for the long haul and excellent value - Cockburn is truly back on form. Total production of 2,450 cases."
95 Vinous, Neal Martin (6/2018) "The 2016 Cockburn's, which comes mainly from the Bico de Pato vineyard, is deep in colour, perhaps more so than other vintages of this Port encountered during previous declaration tastings. The nose is tight at first, almost Bordeaux-like with blackberry, raspberry coulis, touches of inkwell and cassis. There is admirable purity here. The palate is beautifully balanced with supple tannin, a wonderful line of acidity and immense harmony. There is presence but not weight, a silky smooth finish with hints of raisin and fig that linger tenderly in the mouth. What a marvellous Cockburn's! Production is 2,450 cases. (Drink between 2023-2050)"
