88 Vinous, David Schildknecht (10/1/2019) "Fass 2 issues from young vines low down on the Ayler Kupp slope toward Biebelhausen. This 2017 finished with a mere 1.1 grams of residual sugar " which entailed reaching 12.75% alcohol and not being ready for bottling until June (whereas most of the Lauer 2017s were bottled in April). A novelty of this 2017 is Lauer's inclusion of some whole berries in the ferment. A combination of crunch, pleasant piquancy and earthiness suggests raw turnip, while hints of black licorice and peach fuzz add welcome interest and tang. The feel is glossy and there is a formidable sense of stuffing without weightiness. The finish grips decisively, I wouldn't be surprised to witness this benefiting from time in bottle. (You might think that as radically dry as this wine is, it would be one of the few from Lauer whose label indicates trocken. But for some reason, that is not the case.) Drinking Window: 2019-2022."
90 John Gilman (4/2019) "The 2017 vintage of Fass 2 comes in at 12.5 percent octane and is quite dry, as mentioned above, at just over one gram of sugar. The wine is youthful, but shows lovely promise, with the nose wafting from the glass in a mix of pink grapefruit, orange peel, plenty of smokiness, a fine base of slate, wild yeasts and a nice hint of Saar herb tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, racy and nascently complex, with great focus, cut and grip and a long, poised and perfectly balanced finish. This will need a year or two longer in the cellar to start to stir than the 2018 version, but it too is going to be an excellent bargain. Drink between 2023-2055."

If you know where Williams Ski & Patio or Rick's Auto Body are located, we're on the same street; just about a few hundred yards to the south. If you are not familiar with the area, best to use GPS or some online directions because our store is a bit tricky to find!
