Thurston Wolfe "The Geologist" Columbia Valley Red 2012

Email
Varietal: Red Blend
Region: Columbia Valley
Color: Red
Country/State: Washington
92 Our Score (5/2018) With 40 years of experience in the Columbia Valley, proprietor Wade Wolfe, is a master of site selection. This new bottling of his flagship wine is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon from Upland Vineyard and 25% Petit Verdot from Double Canyon. Dark cherry, black raspberry, red currant and cassis give way to secondary flavors of subtle green herbs, a wisp of tobacco, notes of espresso, rich mocha and a comforting earthiness. These enticing flavors are balanced by lively acidity and sturdy tannins that end in a satisfyingly long finish. The impressive structure flexes its muscle, yet the wine remains sophisticated and refined - a hallmark of well made, and typically expensive, Cabernet. This superb bottle of wine reminded us of a classified-growth Bordeaux from a classic vintage. Our sample bottle was still drinking well on day three, indicating it has a long life ahead of it. While you'll likely want to drink a few bottles now, best bet is to stash some away for at least a few more years. You will be hard pressed to find another Cabernet at this price with so much sophistication.

Our store is on Old Skokie Road which is the frontage road on the west side of Rt. 41. We are 400 yards south of Deerfield Rd/Central Avenue. If you know where Williams Ski & Patio or Rick's Auto Body are located, we're on the same street; just about a few hundred yards to the south. If you are not familiar with the area, best to use GPS or some online directions because our store is a bit tricky to find!
