Zuccardi "Q" Mendoza Malbec 2015

91 Our Score
94 James Suckling
(6/21/2017) "Wow. This is exciting. Blackberries, flowers, dark fruit and hints of walnut shell here follow through to a medium to full body, fine tannins and a juicy finish. This is tight and polished. Give it two or three years to soften, but it is already very pretty." (Argentina)

Zorzal "Tinto de Tiza" Eggo Red 2015

92 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
(12/2016) "The one blend in the Eggo range is the 2015 Eggo Tinto de Tiza, which mixes Malbec with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in 2,000-liter egg-shaped cement vats where the wine matured for almost one year. This feels quite complete and balanced, with good ripeness while keeping the balance and poise. The palate is juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a bittersweet finish akin to sour cherries. Very tasty and long. Super. Incredible for the price. 16,000 bottles were filled in January 2016."

Zorah "Voski" Voskeat/Garandmak White Blend 2016

Huge savings on this unique and delicious white blend from Armenia!
90 Our Score
(8/2019) Zorah's vineyards are located in the foothills of Mount Ararat, adjacent to the archeological site of the Areni-1 cave, a historical landmark and the oldest winery in the world. The high elevation of the vineyards, coupled with warm days and cool nights, offers ideal conditions for the ripening of the fruit. This delicious white wine is made from a blend of two ancient indigenous grapes, Voskeat and Garandmak. Fermented in large concrete vats using natural yeasts, it hits the palate with salt-tinged citrus that leads into a medium body with juicy stone fruits with a pleasantly bitter almond finish. A perfect pairing with grilled salmon kebabs and toasted almond pilaf.

Zorah "Karasi" Areni Noir 2016

Huge savings on this unique and delicious red from Armenia!
90+ Our Score
(8/2019) Named for the traditional clay vessel in which it is raised, Karasi is a tribute to the 6100 year-old history of winemaking in Armenia. The wine is produced from 100% Areni Noir, an indigenous varietal that has adapted to the high altitudes of the southern Caucasus. The fermentation occurs in concrete tanks followed by 12-months aging in amphorae. The resulting wine is hearty, yet elegant, layered with cocoa, dark plum and a touch bing cherry. Medium-bodied with brisk acidity and soft, smooth tannins, followed by a lingering finish with allspice and cracked black pepper, this wine will pair wonderfully with lamb and dried apricot Tagine.

Zenato "Alanera" Veronese Rosso 2014

93 James Suckling
90 Our Score
(10/2018) With rich, plush flavors of black cherry, blackberry, hazelnut, milk chocolate and baking spice, the 2014 Zenato "Alanera" is flat-out delicious from the moment the cork is popped. A blend of traditional Veronese grapes - 55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone - and 5% each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Half of the fruit was dried in the same method that produces Amarone, giving the wine an alluring complexity and depth. If you've been a fan of Allegrini's Palazzo della Torre, you'll love Alanera. Heck, if you're a fan of interesting reds in general, you ought to check this one out.

Yarden Golan Heights Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

91 Our Score
(3/2019) A powerful, modern-style Cabernet from Israel? Absolutely! This is ancient winemaking territory, with high-elevation vineyards. The 2015 Yarden is loaded with black cherry, cedar, blueberry and creme de cassis. Aged in French oak, 40% new, for 18 months, the 2015 Yarden will have broad appeal to lovers of California Cabernet. Taste it blind with your friends, and they'll likely pick it as a much more expensive bottle from Napa. Drink now or cellar for a decade.

Yalumba "Old Bush Vine" Barossa Valley Grenache 2016

90+ Our Score
93 Wine & Spirits
(2/2018) "The Old Bush Vine range from Yalumba consistently turns out some of the greatest values from Australia, this latest grenache being one of them. It's clean and bright; one taster described the taste as "the perfect parallel to the flavor of raspberries." The structure is about floral delicacy rather than tannic power, a wine light enough to serve chilled. And it brings a range of different foods to mind as accompaniments, from chicken liver mousse to char-grilled sardines to a burger with tomatoes and pickled red onions."

Xavier Vins Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 2015 500 ML

Imported especially for Vin Chicago, this Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a real treat, offering beautiful acidity and not much more than a kiss of sweetness. AOC rules require a minimum ABV of 15% and Xavier has fortified it just up to that point. His goal was to focus on the aromatics and acidity while avoiding too much alcohol. It's a very tasty wine, and it comes in a very cool looking 500 ml bottle.
93 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "Tasting just like the 2014, only richer and sweeter (although Xavier told me the goal here is less obvious sweetness), the 2015 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise offers a stunning nose of white peach, honeysuckle, sugar water and apricot. Full-bodied, rich, unctuous and decadent, with a big mid-palate and nicely balanced sweetness, drink it over the coming couple of years."

Xavier Vignon Lirac 2016

A compex, beautifully textured Southern Rhone red from the talented Xavier Vignon!
92 Wine Advocate
(10/31/2017) "One of Vignon's better efforts, the 2016 Lirac showcases ripe fruit, ranging from raspberries and cherries to hints of stone fruit. Yet, it's not over the top or simply fruity. This full-bodied wine adds hints of leather, garrigue and licorice along the way, evolving from creamy to velvety on the palate and through the lasting finish. Drink 2017 - 2025."

Xavier Vignon Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

90 Jeb Dunnuck
(8/28/2018) "The 2016 Cotes du Rhone is a winner. Blackberries, flowers, violets, hints of pepper all give way to a fresh, yet rich, beautifully textured red that has fine tannin and the purity of fruit that's common in the vintage."

Xavier Vignon "Vieilles Vignes" Cotes du Rhone 2016

92+ Jeb Dunnuck
(2/15/2018) "The older vine cuvee of the estate is the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes and it is primarily Grenache blended with 15% each of Mourvedre and Syrah. In this case, the Mourvedre vines are 60 years in age and the Grenache vines are 45 years in age. Aged 12 months in 80% concrete tanks and 20% in barrel, its vibrant purple color gives way to a concentrated, medium to full-bodied 2016 that's much more reserved and tight compared to the other Cotes du Rhone releases, yet offers beautiful purity in its blueberry and blackberry fruit, as well as subtle notes of violets, charcoal, and pepper. With integrated acidity and fine, polished tannin, this is a serious Cotes du Rhone that's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for a decade. Drinking window: 2018 - 2030."

Xavier Vignon "Cuvee Anonyme" Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 2015

94 Wine Advocate
96 Jeb Dunnuck
(10/19/2017) "The inky colored 2015 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Anonyme is a serious winner in the vintage. A blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre and the rest Counoise, Vaccarese and Muscardin, it offers a huge nose of blackberry jam, garrigue, crushed violets, and incense. Ripe, unctuous and opulent, yet not over the top, it reminds me of the Trois Source cuvee from Vieille Julienne. This is a smoking good release that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and shine for over a decade."

Wonderwall "Spanish Springs Vineyard" Edna Valley Pinot Noir 2017

89-90 Our Score
(12/2018) The latest release of this single vineyard sensation from winemaker Andrew Jones is even deeper and more concentrated than past vintages. The wine sings of dark cherries, raspberry and hints of cola along with a beautiful floral component laden with cherry blossom. At 12.9% ABV, however, the 2017 Wonderwall is still light on its feet. Packed with delicious fruit-driven flavor and subtle oak spice, it is a delicious, easy going, crowd pleasing winner!

Wonderwall "Spanish Springs Vineyard" Edna Valley Chardonnay 2017

90 Our Score
(3/2019) Andrew Jones sources the fruit for this crisp, pure Chardonnay from Spanish Springs Vineyard, which is reputed to be the closest vineyard to the Pacific Ocean in the entire state of California! With the 2017 bottling, he's put together a real beauty, using minimal oak and letting the powerful fruit speak for itself. Very clean flavors of pear and citrus dominate on the roundly textured palate. Finishes clean, classic and delicious.

Winderlea "Meredith Mitchell Vineyard" McMinnville Pinot Blanc 2016

91 Wine Enthusiast
(2/1/2018) "It seems trite to call an Oregon wine Burgundian, but in this instance it fits perfectly. Elegant from start to finish, it combines lemon and grapefruit flavors with minerally acidity, driving the palate forward with sleek, racy freshness that calls a particularly excellent Mâcon to mind. Roughly one third was aged in clay amphora, the rest in neutral oak."

Winderlea "Imprint" Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2015

This biodynamically-farmed, 100% whole cluster gem was a hit with diners preferring freshness at our recent Winderlea Dinner at D&J Bistro in Lake Zurich. Bill Sweat the founder here is a full-on whole cluster convert, a real stem-junkie, and we think once you have more wines like this, you will be too!

91 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(1/2018) "(all whole clusters and 10% new French oak) Deep red. Spice-tinged red berry and floral scents, backed by deeper cola and cherry pit nuances. Sappy, penetrating raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show very good clarity and pick up a hint of smokiness as the wine stretches out. Fine-grained tannins build slowly and add shape to the long, lively finish, which leaves behind a suggestion of spicecake."

90 Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(12/2016) "Vivid red. Bright, energetic and spicy on the fragrant nose, displaying fresh red fruit and floral scents and a subtle touch of blood orange. Juicy and light on its feet, offering gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors that unfold and put on weight with air. The floral quality repeats on the finish, which hangs on with very good, spice-tinged persistence. I find this wine to be quite elegant, even understated, for the vintage."
