Zuccardi "Q" Mendoza Malbec 2015

91 Our Score
94 James Suckling
(6/21/2017) "Wow. This is exciting. Blackberries, flowers, dark fruit and hints of walnut shell here follow through to a medium to full body, fine tannins and a juicy finish. This is tight and polished. Give it two or three years to soften, but it is already very pretty." (Argentina)

Zorzal "Tinto de Tiza" Eggo Red 2015

92 Our Score
94 Wine Advocate
(12/2016) "The one blend in the Eggo range is the 2015 Eggo Tinto de Tiza, which mixes Malbec with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon fermented in 2,000-liter egg-shaped cement vats where the wine matured for almost one year. This feels quite complete and balanced, with good ripeness while keeping the balance and poise. The palate is juicy and fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a bittersweet finish akin to sour cherries. Very tasty and long. Super. Incredible for the price. 16,000 bottles were filled in January 2016."

Zenato "Alanera" Veronese Rosso 2014

93 James Suckling
90 Our Score
(10/2018) With rich, plush flavors of black cherry, blackberry, hazelnut, milk chocolate and baking spice, the 2014 Zenato "Alanera" is flat-out delicious from the moment the cork is popped. A blend of traditional Veronese grapes - 55% Corvina, 25% Rondinella, 10% Corvinone - and 5% each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Half of the fruit was dried in the same method that produces Amarone, giving the wine an alluring complexity and depth. If you've been a fan of Allegrini's Palazzo della Torre, you'll love Alanera. Heck, if you're a fan of interesting reds in general, you ought to check this one out.

Yves Leccia "Ile de Beaute" Rouge 2015

92+ Our Score
(8/2017) A wonderful blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Niellucciu, the Corsican name for Sangiovese! This energetic, elegant, but structured and chewy red is like a great Cru Beaujolais crossed with a top Cotes-du-Rhone Villages grown in sandy soil. Super distinctive with tons of personality and, most importantly, delicious! Try with all foods you'd pair with Oregon Pinot Noir, like salmon, beer can chicken or lamb chops.

Yarden Golan Heights Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

91 Our Score
(3/2019) A powerful, modern-style Cabernet from Israel? Absolutely! This is ancient winemaking territory, with high-elevation vineyards. The 2015 Yarden is loaded with black cherry, cedar, blueberry and creme de cassis. Aged in French oak, 40% new, for 18 months, the 2015 Yarden will have broad appeal to lovers of California Cabernet. Taste it blind with your friends, and they'll likely pick it as a much more expensive bottle from Napa. Drink now or cellar for a decade.

Yannick Paquet "Domaine des Granges" Macon Fuisse 2017

90+ Our Score
(7/2018) Earlier this year, as we tasted with Yannick and his father, Jean-Paul, in their chilly, no-frills cellar, we were highly impressed with the quality - and the prices - of the Chardonnay from this small, family producer! Featuring ripe red and yellow apple, preserved lemon and herb-scented honey flavors, the 2017 Macon-Fuisse that we're featuring today is medium-plus in body and acidity and is totally delicious. As you'd expect for a well-made Chardonnay from the Macon, it finishes with a tense minerality that leaves your mouth watering. Fresh, rich and totally quaffable, it is completely drinkable by itself and will pair wonderfully with roast chicken or summer salads and sausages.

Yangarra Estate McLaren Vale GSM 2015

92 Our Score
95 James Halliday
(8/2017) "One of the noticeable traits about Yangarra's wines, GSM in particular, there's nothing harsh or worked, there's a purity of fruit that comes through, the balance of tannins to acidity, and this not shy with the latter. The right amount of spice and avour and most importantly, crafting a really, delicious drink."

Yangarra "Estate" McLaren Vale Old Vine Grenache 2014

94 James Suckling
(1/11/2017) "A stunning old-vine rendering of grenache from a sandy outcrop of McLaren Vale, this has a very powerful yet composed feel to it. The nose has an almost brooding and cryptic air about it. It floats around in a spice-infused cloud of cloves, pepper and cinnamon; it's gently tarry, offering up red plums and dark-berry aromas that are concentrated and build momentum with air. Sturdy, clean-cut tannins deliver staggering fruit concentration with a wealth of ripe dark-cherry and plum flavors. Terrific length. This has much on offer now and much to come in time. Outstanding value. Best from 2020."

Yalumba "Old Bush Vine" Barossa Valley Grenache 2016

90+ Our Score
93 Wine & Spirits
(2/2018) "The Old Bush Vine range from Yalumba consistently turns out some of the greatest values from Australia, this latest grenache being one of them. It's clean and bright; one taster described the taste as "the perfect parallel to the flavor of raspberries." The structure is about floral delicacy rather than tannic power, a wine light enough to serve chilled. And it brings a range of different foods to mind as accompaniments, from chicken liver mousse to char-grilled sardines to a burger with tomatoes and pickled red onions."

Xavier Vins Muscat de Beaumes de Venise 2015 500 ML

Imported especially for Vin Chicago, this Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is a real treat, offering beautiful acidity and not much more than a kiss of sweetness. AOC rules require a minimum ABV of 15% and Xavier has fortified it just up to that point. His goal was to focus on the aromatics and acidity while avoiding too much alcohol. It's a very tasty wine, and it comes in a very cool looking 500 ml bottle.
93 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "Tasting just like the 2014, only richer and sweeter (although Xavier told me the goal here is less obvious sweetness), the 2015 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise offers a stunning nose of white peach, honeysuckle, sugar water and apricot. Full-bodied, rich, unctuous and decadent, with a big mid-palate and nicely balanced sweetness, drink it over the coming couple of years."

Xavier Vignon Lirac Rouge 2015

87-90 Wine Advocate
(12/30/2016) "An unusual Southern Rhône blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache, the 2015 Lirac offers bright, juicy acidity and medium-bodied richness. Giving up lots of peppery notes, olive and darker fruits, it has good concentration and impressive purity."

Xavier Vignon Cotes du Rhone Rouge 2016

90 Jeb Dunnuck
(8/28/2018) "The 2016 Cotes du Rhone is a winner. Blackberries, flowers, violets, hints of pepper all give way to a fresh, yet rich, beautifully textured red that has fine tannin and the purity of fruit that's common in the vintage."

Xavier Vignon "Vieilles Vignes" Cotes du Rhone 2016

91 Our Score
92+ Jeb Dunnuck
(2/15/2018) "The older vine cuvee of the estate is the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Vieilles Vignes and it is primarily Grenache blended with 15% each of Mourvedre and Syrah. In this case, the Mourvedre vines are 60 years in age and the Grenache vines are 45 years in age. Aged 12 months in 80% concrete tanks and 20% in barrel, its vibrant purple color gives way to a concentrated, medium to full-bodied 2016 that's much more reserved and tight compared to the other Cotes du Rhone releases, yet offers beautiful purity in its blueberry and blackberry fruit, as well as subtle notes of violets, charcoal, and pepper. With integrated acidity and fine, polished tannin, this is a serious Cotes du Rhone that's going to benefit from a year or two of bottle age and keep for a decade. Drinking window: 2018 - 2030."

Xavier Vignon "Esprit Francais - Cuvee Cancan" Cotes du Rhone 2016

93+ Jeb Dunnuck
(8/28/2018) "A blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, and Counoise, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Esprit Francais Cuvee Cancan offers a deeper, denser, more masculine personality. Black fruits, smoked earth, black olive, and gravelly minerality all give way to a big, rich, concentrated wine that has building tannin, a big mid-palate, and fine, elegant, yet certainly present tannin. Give it a few years."
