Bodegas Atalaya "La Atalaya del Camino" Almansa 2013

90+ Our Score
90+ Vinous, Josh Raynolds
(1/2016) "Inky ruby. Brooding and slow to open up. Aeration unveils powerful dark fruit preserves, licorice and candied violet, with suggestions of fruitcake and smoky minerals. A spicy note enlivens the chewy, concentrated cassis and bitter cherry flavors. Supple tannins build through a long, smoky finish, echoing the floral and licorice qualities emphatically. Give this youngster some age or a decent decanting. Drink 2019-2024."

Dry Creek Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

90 Our Score
(6/2019) We've been working with Dry Creek Vineyard for over 30 years and believe their wines to be more impressive now than ever. We've offered their smartly priced "Fume Blanc" regularly in the past. The bottling we offer here is one step above. Sourced entirely from the Dry Creek Valley appellation, it blends Sauvignon Blanc (76%) with Sauvignon Musque (15%) and Sauvignon Gris (9%). The addition of these Sauvignon Blanc firstcousin varietals, as well as some contact with Acacia and Chestnut barrels, results in a wonderfully expressive wine. Look for flavors of nectarine, guava, blood orange and vanilla creme along with a rich mouthfeel and a zesty finish. Perfect as a cocktail wine or paired with lemon chicken, ramen or pesto pastas.

A.A. Badenhorst "Secateurs" Swartland Chenin Blanc 2018

90+ Our Score
94 Wine & Spirits
(2/2019) "Drought conditions followed by a cool harvest season produced a stunning version of Adi Badenhorst's entry-level chenin. He took an unusual approach in 2018, harvesting the fruit over the course of 12 days and adding each day's fruit to the already-fermenting musts. All of it was whole-bunch pressed, and one-quarter was fermented in old casks, the rest in tanks. Left on its lees for seven months with occasional stirring, the final wine is as deep and rich in flavor as its yellow hue predicts: It moves from waxy apple flavors to mango, wildflower honey and tangerine. It feels all of a piece, bright acidity holding the flavors taut and firm, a large-boned chenin fit for a crown roast of pork. All that for $16."

94 James Suckling
91 Wine Spectator
(2/28/2019) "Smart Buy - Dark and concentrated, with the vibrant structure imparting fluidity. Dill, blackberry, black currant and toasted spice flavors linger, with the dusty tannins sealing the deal. Best from 2020 through 2025."

Tishbi Emerald Riesling 2017

87 Our Score
(4/2019) The Tishbi family makes solid Kosher wines from noble grapes, including this slightly off-dry Riesling. Sourced from the Shomron region of Israel, this effort gives fresh, fruity flavors of green apple, white raspberry and ripe lemon. Great by itself, with Asian food or lighter fish dishes.

Bodegas Juan Gil "Silver Label" Jumilla Monastrell 2016

90+ Our Score
(3/2019) The "Silver Label" from the Juan Gil Family's home estate in Jumilla has been a Vin Chicago staff and customer favorite for well over a decade. With enough power and seriousness to keep a Cab-lover happy, it is fully loaded with dense and jammy dark flavors of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry along with a whiff of licorice and a hint of warm rocky earth. Full-bodied, yet soft and round, drink it with your weekend steak, on Taco Tuesday or all by itself.

90 Our Score
(10/2018) The string of can't-miss 2016 Southern Rhone reds continues with this impressive blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, all from certified organic vineyards. The wine is full and rich, with noticeable balanced tannins and a lively acid structure - one of the defining characters of the now legendary 2016 harvest.
