What's different about Vin Chicago? First of all, we're not about safe choices. We don’t care about hot sellers. We look for the special wines, the ones scoring highest in the wine press and the ones we discover on our own, that we can get for a great price. We taste—and rate for ourselves— virtually everything we put on our shelves. Why? Because we want you to love the wine you buy from us. And come back for more.

Bodegas El Nido "El Nido" Jumilla 2015

95 Wine Advocate
(12/29/2017) "Following the style of the Clio from the same vintage, the 2015 El Nido is a powerful, ripe and concentrated blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 30% Monastrell aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 23 months. It's bottled with 16% alcohol, not a shy wine but not one that shows heat, as it keeps the balance in an XL way. It feels concentrated, powerful and young, but the oak is surprisingly more integrated than in the 2014. As it happens with many wines, this is not for everybody, as it has a marked style, but for those who like this profile, this could very well be the finest vintage of El Nido to date. It can be had with powerful food, but it should be better with a few years in bottle. 5,500 bottles were filled in September 2017. Drink Date: 2019 - 2030."

Argot "Borrowed Jewels" Sugarloaf Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Winery price is $125!
94 Jeb Dunnuck
(1/31/2019) "More expensive and from a great hillside terroir of rock soils in the southern part of the valley, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Sugarloaf Vineyard offers a more rounded, supple, sexy style comparted to the more focused Starstruck releases. Plums, cassis, eucalyptus, incense, and cedar notes all emerge from this ripe, powerful sexy 2015 that shows the style of the vintage nicely. This fruit loaded effort is going to take 3-4 years to shed some baby fat but will drink beautifully for two decades. Drinking window: 2022 - 2042."

Herman Story Wines "Bolt Cutter" California Red 2015

93 Our Score
(12/2017) We really dig the big flavors of Herman Story wines and wish he made more Cabernet-based wines like this "Bolt Cutter" blend of 42% Cabernet, 32% Petit Verdot and 26% Syrah - sourced from some pretty famous vineyards, including Shadow Canyon and White Hawk. We could tell you all about the powerful mouthfeel and the super dense fruit flavors, but these notes from proprietor Russell P. From if more intriguing than anything we could ever write... "If Merle Haggard and Neil Young had ever released that metal record it would be playing on this train as it blew through the California deserts, carrying it's payload of blackberrycola sorbet on a quest for the coast: granite talus, smoked black cherry, flame kissed gingerbread village, crispy blueberry sage handpie, road tar, perfect powerchords and lightning struck oxen." We're not exactly sure what that means, but the wine is really freaking delicious. Drink now and over the next 4-5 years. For best results, decant an hour or two prior to serving.

(10/29/2018) "One-hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon from 27-year-old vines, aged for 19 months in 100% new French oak, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon A. Price is very deep purple-black in color and features vibrant creme de cassis, warm plums, blueberry pie and dark chocolate notes with hints of menthol, rose hip tea, yeast extract and lavender. The palate is full-bodied with a taut line of super ripe, grainy tannins and wonderful freshness supporting the muscular fruit, finishing long and minerally. 125 cases produced. Drink 2021 - 2040."

Phillip Togni Spring Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

94+ Wine Advocate
98 Decanter
97 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(10/2016) "Togni's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is quite dark and powerful, but also very much medium in body. Graphite, smoke, savory herbs, mint, leather and a core of inky dark red and purplish fruit infuse this deep, beautifully layered Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is a wine built on energy and aromatics that won't hit its stride until at least age ten. Drinking window: 2024 - 2039."

Chateau Pape Clement Pessac-Leognan Bordeaux 2016

96 Vinous, Antonio Galloni
(1/2019) "The 2016 Pape Clement is fabulous. Racy and sumptuous in the glass, the 2016 captures the style that now characterizes Bernard Magrez's wines from his estate in Pessac. Specifically, the 2016 is wonderfully deep in the glass, and yet retains terrific freshness as well. A rush of dark cherry, plum, smoke, scorched earth, grilled herb, leather and menthol builds as the 2016 shows off its compelling, inviting personality. I would prefer to give the 2016 at least a few years in bottle to allow its full breadth of aromatics to develop. Even so, there is so much to like. Pliant, supple and super-expressive, Pape Clement is gorgeous in 2016. Tasted two times. Drink 2022 - 2036."
