2023 Dolum Estates Cabernet Sauvignon
California
~~~~~~~~~~~
Boasting pure fruit flavors of black cherry and blackberry topped with a dollop of sweet raspberry compote, there is a whole lot going on here. Secondary aromas of violets and subtle spices add to the fun, with the whole package surrounded by medium-plus intensity tannins that are quite nicely integrated.
Pair this with burgers off the grill and you'll be loving life! Awarding a raving 94 Points, Decanter Magazine writes...
“A full-throttle, blackberry-driven red, laden with chalky minerality and layered with robust tannins. Violet scents mingle with fig and plum fruit in a medium- to full-bodied expression that hits all the right chords, delivering a pleasing one-two punch to the senses. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2034.”
2015 Brut Rosé Champagne from the House that Started the Style!
2015 Veuve Clicquot ”La Grand Dame” Brut Rosé
Champagne, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Elegant, complex, sophisticated and delicious down to the last drop, the “La Grande Dame” tête de cuvée from Veuve Clicquot is among Champagne’s most prestigious bottlings. This rare Brut Rosé from the 2015 vintage, a blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir is just beginning to enter its prime drinking window!

“The widow Clicquot gave us Champagne's first rosé by the assemblage method in 1818. Almost 200 years later, the Veuve Clicquot house is using a plot of Pinot Noir – the Clos Colin in Bouzy – owned by Madame Clicquot’s husband to make a red wine, 13% of which is added to the white Grande Dame blend to make La Grande Dame Rosé. Just like the white version, this shows the best of 2015, its juicy strawberry shortcake fruit is friendly and warm up front. Tucked inside are intriguing layers of allspice, pink grapefruit, satsuma and jellied fruits, with a touch of brown bread richness, but little overt creaminess or butteriness – yet. There is an edgier, cranberry and hedgerow-fruit side too, which shows the vintage, but it stops well short of some of the harshness of 2015, showing the potential to surprise greatly with further ageing. Impressive. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035.”
          - 95 Points, Decanter (2/27/2024)

“The 2015 Champagne La Grande Dame Rose saw the addition of 13% red wine, all coming from the same parcel as their Coteaux Champenois, a small parcel of less than a hectare. A deeper pink/salmon hue, it’s packed with aromas of wild berries, layered spice, and crushed flowers. The palate is ripe and full, with a powerful build that’s softened out by a rounded and supple mousse, and it has a lot of length and persistence, with attractive peppery spice on the finish. It should age gracefully over the coming decades.”
          - 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (12/20/2024)

“Steeped cherry and raspberry fruit flavors are accented by tea rose, grated ginger and blood orange zest aromatics in this graceful rosé Champagne, in a vinous style. Lively on the palate, with bright acidity and a fine mousse, plus a minerally underpinning of smoke, oyster shell and chalk notes driving the racy, well-spiced finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Disgorged March 2023. Drink now through 2035.”
