2022 G.D. Vajra “Albe” Barolo
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Singing with classic aromas and flavors of mixed red berries, dried rose petals, subtle earthiness and a lovely accent of spice, the 2022 G.D. Vajra "Albe" Barolo is an absolute joy to drink. How is it this good and still priced at just thirty-six bucks? We simply cannot explain!
Soft, round tannins are balanced out beautifully by lively acidity, resulting in a Barolo that is mouthwateringly good and that will only get better over the coming 5 to 10 years. This bevy of 93- and 94-Point reviews sums it up nicely...
"A very exuberant yet delicate nose of rose petals, clementine peel and raspberries. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red fruit and silky tannins. Very pleasant. Drink now or hold."
- 94 Points, James Suckling (1/15/2026)
“A medium ruby color, the 2022 Barolo Albe marks the 50th vintage of this cuvée. Aromas of fresh cherries, spice, and ripe orange peel lead into a medium-bodied palate with purity and polish. Already quite appealing, this is a wine I would happily order by the glass, and it should drink beautifully over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.”
- 93 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (4/6/2026)
“The G.D. Vajra 2022 Barolo Albe has aromas of crushed red berry, lavender and eucalyptus. On the smooth, full-bodied palate, notes of star anise and blood orange accent a core of cherry marinated in spirits. Taut, fine-grained tannins provide polished support. Drink through 2034”
- 93 Points, Kerin O'Keefe (3/2026)
Pop the cork, pour a glass, then sit bit back and enjoy. We can say with utter confidence that this is the absolute best Barolo buy on the market.
2021 Luigi Baudana "Cerretta" Barolo
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
When Luigi and Fiorina Baudana retired from the operation of their premium three-hectare estate, they made the decision to turn it over to the Vajra family. It was a brilliant move, as who else could so lovingly continue their legacy.
From their premium holdings in the “Cerretta” cru, this elegant triple 97-point, 250 case production expression of Barolo combines power and intensity with plenty of rizz! At the dinner, it left jaws hanging. We bring it to you today for what looks to be the best price in the country!
“The fantastic 2021 Cerretta from Luigi Baudana has balsamic aromas of camphor and menthol that mix with violet, spice and berry sensations. Cool, complex and elegantly structured with class and a wild streak – a vinous personification of the Door’s Jim Morrison in his iconic black leather pants and white shirt – the racy palate features strawberry compote, orange zest, star anise and menthol alongside vibrant acidity and taut, refined tannins. It’s still youthfully austere and needs time to fully unwind."
- 97 Points, Kerin O'Keefe (1/2025)
“A pretty red, this evokes strawberry, cherry, pomegranate, rose, mineral and menthol aromas and flavors. Elegant yet firmly built and layered, this should evolve nicely as all of its elements integrate and the tannins soften. Terrific length. Best from 2028 through 2048. 250 cases made, 150 cases imported."
- 97 Points, Wine Spectator (12/15/2025)
“The 2021 Barolo Cerretta sports a bright red hue and is deeper aromatically, offering notes of candied flowers, raspberry liqueur, hints of tiny blue flowers, and a quiet note of polished leather underneath that will come through with time. The palate offers broader tannins, more rounded fruit on the midpalate, and more depth and remarkable transparency. Its noble structure comes through on the finish, and while it has a complete feel all around, it demands more time. Cerretta was harvested on the 13th of October and saw a 42-day maceration on the skins before aging 23 months in cask. Drink 2027-2050."
- 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/1/2025)

2021 G.D. Vajra "Bricco Delle Viole" Barolo
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Vajra’s “Bricco Delle Viole” is Barolo dressed in its finest Saturday night attire. Exquisite through and through, it is pure finesse and elegance, wrapped in silk. Check out these well deserved 97- and 98-point reviews…
“The 2021 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole is more refined and complete at this tasting, with more depth than the Coste delle Rose, exhibiting notes of raspberry liqueur, pressed flowers, sweet herbs, and fresh earth. A very pure and well-balanced vintage for this wine, it really shines with exceptional detail, offering even tannins and a balanced, seamless structure throughout. It feels as though this wine will offer the broadest window for enjoyment, thanks to its purity and length, which are quite profound. Drink over the coming decades. In the cellar, it underwent 51 days of submerged cap maceration, followed by 24 months of cask aging before being bottled. Maturity: 2025 - 2045."
- 98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/1/2025)
“Great wines evoke emotions along with firing the senses. This wine hits the soul like Sappho's sanctuary, 'where cold water ripples and roses bloom everywhere,' making you want to feel more, express more, share more. This is the true essence of wine, and like Sappho's verses, it reveals its beauty layer by layer just as this wine opens with aromas of boysenberry jam mingling with sour cherries, hints of licorice root and allspice, all dusted with rose petals. The palate is pure elegance, charming and flirtatious enough to give you butterflies, as savory notes and subtle dried orange peel weave through red fruits and lifted acidity. This is purity in a bottle. Drink now - 2050.”
- 97 Points, Wine Enthusiast (11/1/2025)
“The organic G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Bricco delle Viole first shows a fragile side, but it eventually rolls onto much greater momentum and focus as it opens in the glass. This is always one of my favorite wines from this excellent producer, and I love it especially thanks to its fine nuances of redcurrant, pressed flower and something a little savory like peat moss. There is a hint of ashy stone or brimstone. All of these little details emerge with terrific sharpness in an epic vintage such as 2021. Fruit comes from a seven-hectare plot at 400 to 480 meters in elevation on Sant'Agata marl soils with marine fossils. Drink Date: 2027 - 2045.”
- 97 Points, Wine Advocate (6/30/2025)
The $105 release price and $97 median online retail for this Vajra flagship are already incredibly impressive. Our price is even better. Dig into a bottle or two now, and save the rest for drinking over the coming 20+ years!
