2022 Paul Hobbs ”Crossbarn” Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast, California
~~~~~~~~~~~
This gorgeous and authentic expression of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir boasts warm, caressing flavors of spiced cherries, pomegranate and mixed wild berries along with underlying notes of freshly turned earth, baking spices and floral notes that continue on through a long and captivating finish.
Paul and his team crafted this entirely from fruit grown on his estate, using stainless steel for fermentation, with 8% whole clusters included, and maturation for nine months in predominantly used French oak, then bottled unfined. The resulting wine has taken home some big 93-, 94- and 92-point reviews from the press. And, as with the Chardonnay, our price is hot!
"The 2022 Pinot Noir, made entirely with estate fruit, calls you into the glass with perfumed cranberry and pomegranate, accents of sweet baking spices, autumn leaves and generous floral tones. The light-bodied palate offers a deep core of spicy fruit supported by gently chalky tannins and mouthwatering acidity, and it has a long, bright finish. 15,400 cases were produced, and it will be released in February of 2024. Drink Date: 2024 - 2031."
- 93 Points, Wine Advocate (12/14/2023)
"Lots of dried strawberry, umami, seaweed, and bark with some savory undertones. Some flowers. Medium body. Creamy and flavorful. Lovely deliciousness at the end. It’s made from different parts of Paul Hobbs’ top vineyards - George Menini Estate, Cleary Estate, Goldrock Estate, and Catherine Lindsay Estate. Drink now."
- 94 Points, James Suckling (11/10/2023)
"The 2022 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is youthful, ripe magenta/ruby hue and is inviting as it opens to pretty notes of pie spice, cherry liqueur, and crushed roses. It is clean and inviting on the palate, with lovely elegance, a refined feel, and great freshness through the finish. It’s pretty darn tasty now but can be enjoyed over the next 5-6 years. Maturity: 2024 - 2030."
- 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (6/27/2024)
