ALLOCATED: The Brilliant Rieslings of Hofgut Falkenstein!

One of the world’s greatest producers of Riesling is Hofgut Falkenstein, a 13 hectare property located in the Saar region of Germany. Run by father and son Erich and Johannes Weber, the wines are coveted by passionate Riesling insiders and collectors throughout the world, including numerous Vin Chicago customers and staff.

“The Webers produced a remarkable collection of wines in 2024, with even more density and grip than usual”
- Mosel Fine Wines, July 2025

Today, we’re featuring four of their 2024 vintage Rieslings, each crafted from a single steeply-sloped, hand-harvested, sustainably farmed vineyard up to 90 years in age. Each wine was fermented using only wild yeasts, then gently transferred to a single, quite old, individually named 1,000 liter wooden fuder cask for maturation.

Despite the hype, and the rather high scores, prices on these electric, complex and deliciously thrilling wines remain quite reasonable. The big challenge is supply. The words, listed below, that Wine Advocate wrote back in 2019 are even more true today. Quantities are minuscule, demand is huge and the wines disappear as quickly as they arrive.

Read on for notes from the highly respected Mosel Fine Wines journal, then quickly click the Big Green Button while our supplies last. We'll indicate on the order form as items sell out!

“The Falkensteiner Rieslings are fast-selling wines. You need to have a great relationship with your supplier, because even at the domaine you won't get a bottle to buy, only to drink. Erich and Johannes Weber could sell each bottle at least two times. There is no other domain that is as 'hot' as the Falkensteiner Hof right now.”
- Wine Advocate, June 2019

2024 Hofgut Falkenstein "AP Nr 12 - Kugel Peter"
Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett
Saar, Mosel, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~
“The 2024er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett Kugel Peter (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) was made from fruit picked on 50-year-old from partially un-grafted vines in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard, which was classified in the highest category on the old taxation maps and was fermented down to barely fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It delivers a beautifully fresh and pure nose of smoke, spearmint, lime, greengage, green apple, almond, and smoke. The wine is very pure and light- weighted on the palate, and leaves a light, airy, and fresh long finish. This is a superbly fresh and light expression of Kabinett. 2032-2049.”
2024 Hofgut Falkenstein "AP Nr 11 - Meyer Nepal"
Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Feinherb
Saar, Mosel, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~
“The 2024er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Feinherb Meyer Nepal (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from vines planted in the 1950s in the upper part of the vineyard and was fermented to off-dry levels of residual sugar. It delivers a beautifully pure, fresh, and enticing nose of bergamot, lime, cassis, smoke, fine spices, and a hint of almond. The wine is delicately juicy and super complex on the palate, where fine creamy elements are wrapped in candied citrus fruits. The clarity and purity of this remarkable off-dry Riesling are simply breathtaking. 2032-2049.”

2024 Hofgut Falkenstein "AP Nr 5 - Förster"
Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese
Saar, Mosel, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~
“The 2024er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Spätlese Förster (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) was made from clean fruit harvested from vines planted in the 1960s in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard and was fermented down to sweet levels of residual sugar. It delivers a gorgeously complex and attractive nose of whipped almond cream, greengage, thyme, lavender, orange blossom, and lime. The wine is incredibly balanced and mixes nice fresh, ripe fruits and citrusy fruits, spices, and mint. The finish is magnificently long and pure. This is a superb Spätlese in the making! 2034-2054.”
2024 Hofgut Falkenstein "AP Nr 8 - Gisela"
Krettnacher Euchariusberg Alte Reben Riesling Kabinett
Saar, Mosel, Germany
~~~~~~~~~~~
“The 2024er Krettnacher Euchariusberg Riesling Kabinett Alte Reben Gisela (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) was harvested in a parcel still planted with 70-80-year-old un-grafted vines in the prime Gross Schock sector of the vineyard, which was classified in the highest category on the old taxation maps, and was fermented down to barely fruity-styled levels of residual sugar. It offers a brilliant and pure nose of smoke, lime, white flowers, wet slate, herbal tea, grapefruit zest, and mountain water.
