We love this wine. The deep color alone lets you know you’re dealing with something a little ‘extra’ relative to most Tuscans. Highly concentrated flavors of ripe plum, wild blackberry compote, cocoa dust, warmed rosemary, roasted coffee beans and loads of spice conspire to make a lush, sexy medium-to-full bodied red with plenty of energy. Our sample bottle stayed startlingly fresh, nimble and enhancing for the five days we spent with it!
This meticulously delineated blend of 57% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 11% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot much resembles a modern Pomerol, yet sells for a fraction of the price.
"A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, the Tenuta di Trinoro 2022 Le Cupole remains one of Italy's greatest value buys, especially for fans of concentrated, sun-drenched Tuscan reds. The fruit is ripe, but not overripe, and there are thick layers of blackcurrant and Morello cherry at the core. These are framed by toasted spice and cinnamon. The wine is medium to full-bodied, although the ample fruit weight gives this vintage a bigger overall mouthfeel. Drink Date: 2024 - 2035."

Looking online we found 114 listings for all vintages of Le Cupole. Blowing away the $39 median, today's price beats every one of them. We only wish we had more, because this deal is unlikely to be repeated!

Holy smokes! In the ultra-powerful but low-yielding 2020 harvest, Trinoro made the unprecedented decision to hold this wine back a further 12 months at the winery before release. Almost entirely Cabernet Franc — one of the hottest red grape varieties going — a mere 500 cases were produced. That's a third of some recent harvests!
If you love Super Tuscans as much as we do, here's a little perspective: Wine Advocate rated the 2020 Tenuta di Trinoro higher than Tignanello, Sassicaia, Masseto, Solaia and Ornellaia. That's quite a list of Tuscany's who's who!
"The flagship wine from Tenuta di Trinoro is this gorgeous blend of 92% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. The 2020 Tenuta di Trinoro follows on the heels of the 2019 vintage that earned a perfect 100-point score. The 2020 vintage is more open-knit for sure, but it offers a very special view onto Cabernet Franc in particular. The plush black cherry softness of the Merlot is aligned magically with the dark intensity and tannic power of the Cabernet Franc. The fruit ripeness is impeccable and there are no green tones, nor are there any overripe nuances. Everything comes together with balance. For the first time, this wine is being released with an extra year of bottle age. 6,000 bottles were made. Drink Date: 2024 - 2048."
