Today, we bring you one of the best Oregon Pinot Noir values we've come across in a very long time. It's the 2019 "Basalte" bottling, still the current release, from Erni Loosen's J. Christopher winery. Earning 93 Points from Wine Spectator, it is a beguiling wine that reveals its deeply fruit-laden charms over the course of the night. Today, we bring it to you for a beats-every-listing-price of $21.79.
This is a crazy price for a Pinot of this caliber, and it's not the only hot opportunity we have for you today. We've also managed to scoop up a parcel of the 2019 Adelsheim "Staking Claim" Chardonnay directly from the winery. Drinking great, this Oregon gem normally sells for $48. ==========
2019 J. Christopher "Basalte" Pinot Noir
Willamette Valley, Pinot Noir
~~~~~~~~~~~
Sultry and savory, the 2019 Basalte leads with dusty cherry, red earth and savory spices. There's a pure character here that makes itself apparent from the first pour. With time to breathe in the glass or decanter, the wine expands and lengthens, adding enticing notes of macerated strawberry, black cherry, crumbled black rock, gritty red earth, Asian spices and crushed dried flowers.
Awarding 93 Points, Wine Spectator quotes a drinking window running through 2030. It is absolutely bonkers that we're able to bring you this wine for under 22 bucks!
“Gracefully structured, with a vibrant beam of cherry and raspberry flavors accented by stony minerality and dusky spices. Builds richness toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030.”
2019 Adelsheim "Staking Claim" Chardonnay
Chehalem Mountains, Willamette Valley, Oregon
~~~~~~~~~~~
David and Ginny Adelsheim purchased property near Newberg, Oregon back in 1971. In 1978, their Adelsheim Vineyard became the first winery in Chehalem Mountains, long before the region earned official status as a sub-appellation of the Willamette Valley.
More than 50 years later, the wines are better than ever. Today, thanks to some crazy Vin Chicago luck, we’re able to bring you one of their delicious whites at a 50% off price!
The 2019 “Staking Claim” Chardonnay comes from five vineyards in the Chehalem Mountains, most of which are owned and farmed by Adelsheim. Harvested by hand and raised in small and medium sized French oak barrels, roughly 35% of which were new, this beautiful six-year old Chardonnay has an “old world” Burgundy-like structure featuring lifted acidity and a modest 12.5% ABV.
Boasting fresh orchard and baked citrus fruit flavors, this dry, vibrant white shows hints of honey, apple butter and macadamia along with baking spice, hints of toast, and subtle mineral tension. With a pleasingly rich mouthfeel and a long, complex and quite yummy finish, this serious wine typically goes for $48. Today, you'll pay half that!
“Layered aromas of ripe orchard fruits, peach, lemon custard, and a light touch of flinty reduction in the 2019 Chardonnay Staking Claim are followed by a supple palate with notes of baked apples, beeswax, and hazelnut. It is a well-balanced and delicious wine with a decadent feel, that cleans up nicely on the finish. Drink 2022-2028.”

“Svelte and snappy, with attractive orange peel, pear and honeysuckle tones that linger on the finish. Drink now. 1,537 cases made.”
