BURGUNDY ALERT: Limited Availability Gems from the Owner of Romanée Conti!

BURGUNDY ALERT: Limited Availability Gems from the Owner of Romanée Conti!

Aubert de Villaine produces the most exclusive wines on planet Earth at Domaine de la Romanée Conti, with the current vintage of his top cuvée selling for $20,000 per bottle.

Fortunately for Burgundy lovers, just a short 40-minute drive south of Romanée Conti, Aubert owns a property called Domaine de Villaine. Imported by Kermit Lynch, and now run by Aubert’s nephew Pierre de Benoist, Domaine de Villaine is in the southern Burgundy zone of Côte Chalonnaise, a region that has been increasingly celebrated, due in good part to the excellence of Aubert's wines.

“The Côte Chalonnaise is perhaps the best region to hunt for good value reds, an increasingly scarce commodity.”
 - Decanter Magazine, January 2022

Today we have five bottlings from Domaine de Villaine, one white and four reds, all priced at least $19,890 less than the famed Romanée Conti.

Given the current pricing on most bottlings from prestigious houses, these wines from Aubert and Pierre are some of the most exciting values to be found in all of Burgundy. Read on for the details, then click the Big Yellow Button to get your order in. We will indicate on the order page as items sell out.

==========

2022 Domaine de Villaine "Les Saint-Jacques" Blanc
Rully, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
The only white in today’s offer, "Les Saint-Jacques" is crafted from a 1.7 hectare parcel of organically grown Chardonnay vines originally planted in 1990 and harvested at extremely low yields. Using wild yeasts, Les Saint-Jacques is vinified and raised in large used wooden foudres (80%) and smaller barrels (20%), with little intervention. As is the case with all of today's wines, the limited supply prevents us from sampling. We defer to this note from Pierre…
“Its nose, very aromatic benefits from a beautiful energy, with once again this sensation of ripe fruit. On the palate, the maturity of the Chardonnay linked to the bitterness of the skin and its acidity, gives the wine an important aromatic persistence. A very beautiful wine, elegant and fine. To drink now for the vibration of the fruit serving the terroir little-known of Rully.”
2022 Domaine de Villaine "Les Clous"
Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
“Les Clous” is a small, certified organic single vineyard, just 0.43 hectares in size, featuring 25 year old Pinot Noir vines growing in limestone and clay. It is the first of three single vineyard Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Rouge bottlings we’re offering today. Aubert and Pierre raise this young wine in small lots with minimal involvement, utilizing traditional Burgundy processes. Importer Kermit Lynch provides tasting notes comparing it to today's two other Bourgogne Rouges...

“Stylistically, Les Clous is in between La Fortune—lighter and brighter—and La Digoine—the densest and most sappy, characterized by medium weight with more red fruits, smooth but present tannins, and distinctive polish.”
- Kermit Lynch

We found seven prices ranging from $70 to $86. Our price blows them all away. Only two cases available.

2022 Domaine de Villaine "La Fortune"
Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Historically our favorite Bourgogne bottling from de Villaine, “La Fortune” is a 2.3 hectare vineyard of certified organically farmed Pinot Noir vines. Revealing the minerality and lift of its limestone soils, it is an ethereal drink evoking this specific corner of Burgundy - perhaps even more so than the others.
“This rouge is so silky and aromatic…The Pinot from this plot is light in body yet deep in aromas of freshly crushed fruit and hints of peppery spice that by my book evoke true old-school Burgundy.”
      - Kermit Lynch
Median online retail for this very special wine is $85. We bring it to you for a price that beats all 24 listings.
2022 Domaine de Villaine "La Digoine"
Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
This Pinot Noir comes from a 1.8 hectare parcel located at the foot of a slope, with vines dating back 45+ years. The quality of "La Digoine" is no longer a secret, yet it remains one of the best buys in the entirety of single vineyard Burgundy!

“La Digoine is the first wine I think of—after the Bouzeron, of course—when I think of Domaine de Villaine. The name itself exudes aristocratic class. This noble red Burgundy has always drunk well above its price. It has been produced since the 1973 vintage, and an overwhelming majority of those vintages are still drinking well. To smell it is to know it: noir, peppery, mysterious; these characteristics are a constant.”
- Importer Kermit Lynch

We found 17 online listings. Our price beats them all. Given the recent interest in this bottling, expect our supply to go fast.

2021 Domaine de Villaine "Les Champs Cloux" 1er Cru
Rully, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
The only 2021 on offer today. Aubert and Pierre craft this wine from a Premier Cru parcel of 45+ year old Pinot Noir grapes growing in limestone and clay soils.
Red wines from Rully are not very common, which makes this rarity even more exciting. 100% whole cluster fermented, it was raised in previously used demi-muids barrels - no new oak!
“On the palate, the fruit intensity dominates without hindering the expression a fresh, luminous and elegant of its terroir. This is a wine which wood notes are discreet, beautiful aromatic balance.”
