2023 Domaine des Granges Bourgogne Chardonnay

The 2023 vintage produced a massive and generously textured crop. In the hands of skilled vigneron Yannick Paquet, it was a fantastic gift. Yannick used the abundant raw material to craft a Bourgogne Chardonnay that is fleshy, rich and quite delicious.

Pouring a medium-straw color, the 2023 Domaine des Granges jumps from the glass with aromas of yellow flowers, yellow apples, pears and round river stone minerality. In the mouth, it pleases immediately with orchard fruits and mineral tones leading to a rich texture that will expand nicely as you allow it time to breathe. Finishing with chalk, heft and subtle acidity, it is kind of classic sub-$20 Bourgogne Blanc that we used to sell by the truckload, but that has been nearly impossible to find in recent years.

While labeled as a Bourgogne Chardonnay, the fruit for this wine comes from Yannick's estate vines in Fuissé. Growing in rich, calcaire soils, they allow him to make a wine that delivers beyond expectations.

Looking online we find just one listing. As usual, our price is considerably less. For those who love to pop a bottle of classic Burgundy without ponying up big bucks, we cannot recommend this wine enough!

Talking about Burgundy bargains, this small Burgundy grower delivers incredible value thanks to using same logistics channel as Yannick Paquet!

Domaine Henri Latour is located in Auxey-Duresses, a small village close to Volnay. Brothers Francois and Sylvan Latour farm and vinify the wines here, as six generations of their family have done before them.

This Premier Cru bottling comes from “Les Grands Champs” vineyard, a four hectare parcel situated near Meursault and Volnay, and it is delicious. Densely packed with black and red cherry fruit, dusty red earth and red flowers, it is fresh and yummy with an impressive structure that is soft, serious and long.

Looking online, we could not find even a single other listing for this wine. On our scale it is 93 points and, at today's price, it is a big-time steal!
