Côtes-du-Rhône from Northern Rhône Superstar Stéphane Ogier!

While vigneron Stéphane Ogier is most famous for his brilliant expressions of Côte-Rôtie, today we lead things off with a beautiful red he makes in the Southern Rhône!
“Unquestionably one of the benchmark producers in Côte Rôtie today.”
- Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025
We popped his "Le Temps Est Venu" Côtes-du-Rhône with customers a few weeks ago and were totally charmed. At $17.99, it is an awesome way to experience the talent of Ogier, and it is an absurd value.
As it would be inconceivable to feature Ogier without presenting you with a few of his legendary Northern Rhône bottlings, we also bring you a seriously delicious and complex Côte-Rôtie and an unctuously decadent Condrieu.

2022 Domaine Stéphane Ogier "Le Temps Est Venu"
Côtes-du-Rhône, Southern Rhône Valley, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the most exotic Côtes-du-Rhônes we’ve had in recent memory is this complex, deep ruby-garnet colored red from seventh generation vigneron Stéphane Ogier.
“While the top cuvées understandably get most of the attention, don't overlook his Southern Rhône projects like Le Temps Est Venu.”
- Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025
Though he is based in the Northern Rhône, Ogier crafts this delicious red from 50 year old vines growing in the Southern Rhône villages of Plan de Dieu and Visan.
Medium-full in body with savory, densely fruited aromas and flavors of olive, coffee, red pepper, Asian spices, wild raspberry and black cherry compote, it finishes with elegance, silky tannins, great lift and a Northern sophistication that completely belies its low price.
At $17.99, a fraction of his premium Northern Rhône bottlings, this is an amazing way to experience the quality, purity and sheer enjoyability of Stéphane Ogier. We are a very solid 91 points. The critics write...
“Mostly Grenache and Syrah, the 2022 Côtes Du Rhône Le Temps Est Venu is up-front and loaded with charm, offering lots of black raspberry and redcurrant-like fruit as well as peppery garrigue and spice. It's medium to full-bodied, round, layered, and beautifully balanced.”
- 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (3/28/2024)
“The 2022 Cotes du Rhone le Temps Est Venu, first produced in 2010, evokes a gourmand, lively bouquet of dark cherries, violets and spices. Juicy and medium-bodied, supple and enrobing, it's beautifully balanced with a fresh, mouthwatering finish. This tense, vibrant Côtes-du-Rhône, a blend of 60% Grenache Noir and 40% Syrah matured for six months in concrete tanks, is a strong effort from Stéphane Ogier. Drink Date: 2024 - 2028.”
- 90 Points, Wine Advocate (5/29/2025)
“A juicy, aromatic and fresh blend of 60% grenache and 40% syrah. The nose shows notes of dark cherries, cassis, black pepper and dried thyme. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Juicy and well-driven with blue fruit at the center and a spicy finish. Drink now.”
- 91 Points, James Suckling (4/15/2024)
It is awesome to be able to get an Ogier red for under twenty bucks a bottle. This delicious red is a massive steal.
2022 Domaine Stéphane Ogier "Mon Village"
Côte-Rôtie, Northern Rhône Valley, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
This seriously delicious and complex red blew our mind, and we’ve got it today for the lowest price in the country!
From the famous hill of Côte-Rôtie, this is one of the bottlings that made Ogier such a legend. Very deep and complex, the array of flavors are intriguing from the get-go, and become seriously compelling as you allow the wine to open in your glass. Soft and generous, this Northern Rhône classic leads with pure notes of black pepper, wild raspberry, plum, and blueberry confiture that expand with air to include blackberry, dark red flowers, spice and smoke.
“Stéphane Ogier stands out as one of the most skilled and respected winegrowers in Côte-Rôtie.”
- Wine Advocate, May 2025
The reviews from the critics are all quite glowing, but more conservative than we would expect. We can only imagine that they didn’t have the time to enjoy the wine over the course of multiple days or that, as often happens with Burgundy, they tasted and scored this wine relative to the multi-hundred bottlings that Ogier makes. If tasted independently, we’re confident their scores would’ve been as high as ours, which is a glowing 94+ Points. Drinkable now, this wine will be even better in another 3 to 4 years, especially with grilled rack of lamb!
“A delicious 2022 Cote-Rotie that is already open and expressive. Deep blackberry, red-berry and blueberry aromas. The silky tannins are already beautifully integrated. The tannins gently build at the long, polished finish, where there’s a touch of stony minerality. Bottled in the spring of 2024 after one year of maturation in oak barrels, followed by a few months in tank. Drink or hold.”
- 93 Points, James Suckling (4/14/2025)
“Coming from a mix of terroirs, the 2022 Côte Rôtie Mon Village is vivid ruby-hued with a classic Côte Rôtie nose of sweet red and black fruits intermixed with pressed flowers, cured meats, and spice. This complex, medium to full-bodied, elegant effort has the sun-kissed fruit of the vintage, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. Drink bottles over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035.”
- 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/9/2025)
“Aged for one year in barrel, the 2022 Cote Rotie Mon Village constitutes about half of Stéphane Ogier’s production. It features aromas of fresh dark berries, violets and spices with seamlessly integrated oak. It has a medium to full-bodied palate, displaying a taut, dense structure complemented by fresh, velvety tannins and leading to a refined, ethereal finish with hints of dark berries. Currently slightly introverted and firm on the finish, this wine will benefit from 2-4 years of aging in the cellar before it is enjoyed. Drink Date: 2028 - 2034.”
- 92 Points, Wine Advocate (2/13/2025)

This Stunning Ogier Condrieu is "Built to Age"

2022 Domaine Stéphane Ogier "La Combe de Malleval"
Condrieu, Northern Rhône Valley, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Is there a sexier white wine than Condrieu? After tasting this wonderfully decadent example from Ogier, we’re not sure there is! This 100% Viognier, from two tiny terraced parcels, is velvety and silky with purely hedonistic flavors of lychee, white peach, vanilla creme, honeysuckle, plumeria and river stone minerals.
This sensual, Rubenesque white is great on its own and would be an absolute knockout with lobster. We love this one, and so does the press. Check out these passionate reviews from Dunnuck, Suckling and Wine Advocate:
“The earliest harvest ever at Condrieu for Stephane, the 2022 Condrieu La Combe De Malleval offers a gorgeous perfume of white peach, orange blossom, white flowers, and a terrific sense of minerality. Balanced, medium to full-bodied, lively, and elegant, it's an absolutely incredible Viognier that's as good as anything in the vintage.”
- 96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (3/28/2024)
“A stunning Condrieu, focused and textured. It expresses notes of preserved lemons, wild herbs, verbena and wildflowers. It’s medium to full-bodied with a fresh core of delicious white fruit and flowers. Focused and funneled, with a textural, flavorful finish. Drink or hold.”
- 93 Points, James Suckling
“Ogier produced the 2022 Condrieu la Combe de Malleval from fully mature grapes planted in two lieux-dits, Veauvignière in the stunning commune of Malleval and La Combe in Saint-Pierre de Boeuf. This has shown very well today, evoking a flamboyant, vibrant bouquet of white peach, apricots, rose and mint mingled with lovely aromas of ripe pear. Full-bodied, dense and precise, it's enrobing and layered with a rich, fleshy core of fruit and a long, delicate and ethereal finish enhanced by gastronomic bitterness. It's built to age with grace. Drink Date: 2024 - 2044.”
- 94 Points, Wine Advocate (2/6/2025)
