2022 Trivento "Golden Reserve" Malbec
Luján de Cuyo Mendoza, Argentina
~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the classic wine and food pairings is Argentine Malbec and steak. One taste of this structured, dark fruited bottling from Trivento and you'll instantly understand why.
A blend of fruit carefully selected from highly respected vineyards in Luján de Cuyo - Vistalba, Las Compuertas, Agrelo and Perdriel - this tasty red boasts compelling notes of black cherry, plum, sweet spice and mocha along with a nice dusty Bordeaux-esque quality.
Perfect for grilling season and hearty fall and winter fare. This wine opens up really nicely after about an hour. Give it some air before serving and you will be well rewarded.
This impressive 95-Point score from the 2024 Decanter World Wine Awards is backed up by 92- and 93-Point reviews from Jeb Dunnuck and Vinous...
“Sleek dark berries and violet florals with a classy balsamic lift. Textured and pure with glossy tannins and acidity and a rich cocoa, vanilla finish.”
          - 95 points, Decanter World Wine Awards (2024)
“From four different districts within the appellation, the 2022 Malbec Golden Reserve was the winery's first super-premium wine, made for the first time in 2000. Over time, the grapes have been picked earlier by a month from its beginnings, with a focus on less oak and structure, more balance and fruit concentration. It offers Malbec's fruity profile of plum, with rounded tannins and spice aromas. Age 7-10 years. Maturity: 2025 - 2035.”
          - 92 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/22/2025)
“The 2022 Malbec Golden Reserve Trivento was aged up to 12 months in various barrels. It features notes of ripe plum, a touch of raisin, bell pepper and fine wood, with a faint hint of violet. The palate is velvety, smooth and flavorful, with a notable grip that enhances its structure. This is a great vintage for what is perhaps Argentina's most competitive commercial wine. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2034.”
          - 93 Points, Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo (4/2025)
As impressive as this wine is, and with a price well under $20 a bottle, you just can't go wrong here.
Only Thirteen Bucks for Delicious Torrontes from Some of the World’s Highest Altitude Vineyards!
Torrontes is an indigenous grape to Argentina and, while grown in the famed Mendoza wine region, the finest examples often come from the super-high altitude vineyards of Salta. Known for its intense floral aromas and fresh stone and citrus fruit character, Torrontes is a perfect match for seafood or spicy Asian dishes. This bottling from Bodega Colomé is one of the best examples, and the price is unreasonably good!
2024 Bodega Colomé "Estate" Torrontés
Salta, Argentina
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Colomé estate was founded in 1831 and, with plantings peaking at over 10,000 feet, they have some of the highest elevation vineyards in the world.

Today's bottling of Torrontés comes from their La Brava vineyard, whose vines range from 5500 to 7500 feet. That's more modest than 10,000 feet, yet still towering over the famous mountain sites of Napa Valley!

At $12.79, this charismatic white is an awesome example of the value and beauty to be found from Torrontés. Crowing about the "pristine fruit core" and "youthful high-altitude style," this Vinous writeup is spot-on...

“The 2024 Torrontés Estate was crafted from grapes sourced across the Calchaquí Valley. Yellow in hue, it reveals enticing aromas of lime and jasmine, complemented by subtle tropical and herbal notes. Dry, taut and refreshing, the wine flows with a pristine fruit core. This beautifully crafted Torrontés showcases a vibrant and youthful high-altitude style. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2028.”
          - 92 Points, Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo (10/2024)

“A highly fragrant white wine, reminiscent of fresh-cut roses, the 2024 Torrontes Estate is well-made, lengthy, and brimming in bright grapefruit-like acidity. Medium-bodied in style, it’s able to age another 5-7 years. Maturity: 2025 - 2032.”
          - 91 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/22/2025)

Amazingly, we sold the 2011 vintage of this wine for $11.99 back in the day. The value here is quite remarkable.
