2022 El Enemigo Chardonnay
Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
~~~~~~~~~~~
Luxuriously rich and creamy, the El Enemigo Chardonnay is an absolute textural pleasure. Fermented with wild yeasts and aged for a quick nine months in French oak, it is loaded with vibrantly integrated orchard fruits and lemon custard flavors wrapped with signature chalky minerality.
Boasting a lengthy, seductive finish, it has earned two serious accolades from Suckling and Vinous. We're happy to bring it to you today for a price that beats every listing!
“A consistently impressive chardonnay that highlights purity and saline minerality. Salted lemons, sliced apples, seashells and stones drizzled with a touch of oak spice. Full-bodied yet tense and lightly saline on the palate, with bright acidity and a pure, lengthy finish. Nervy and simply delicious. Drink or hold.”
          - 96 Points, James Suckling (4/16/2024)
“The 2022 Chardonnay hails from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. Aged for 12 months in oak barrels, with some under velo de flor, this bright green-gold wine reveals aromas of peaches and pears with a hint of cashew and a slightly oaky backdrop. Dry and lean, the palate lingers with a chalky mouthfeel. This is a modern high-altitude Chardonnay. Drinking Window: 2024 - 2031.”
2022 El Enemigo Malbec
Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina
~~~~~~~~~~~
A blend of 90% Malbec and 10% Cabernet Franc from a 4,800 foot elevation vineyard in Gualtallary, this 2022 Malbec from El Enemigo is a clear cut superstar.

It explodes on the palate with bright and pure flavors of dark cherry, blackberry and plum along with a chalky earthiness and mouth coating texture. Earning numerous 94- and 95-point reviews, it overdelivers in a very big way.

“There's an inviting nose of pure plum fruit and fresh cherry in the 2022 Malbec, which shows lovely balance and a supple, smooth texture. It has a kick of power around its medium-bodied frame that never overwhelms but makes for a lengthy finish of memorable spice and herb. Enjoy through 2032. Maturity: 2025 - 2032.”
          - 94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/22/2025)

“This has blackberries, asphalt, violets and subtle wood on the nose. The palate is angular, sharp and precise, with lots character, a touch of pepper and a focused finish. Drink now.”
          - 95 Points, James Suckling (3/24/2025)

“The 2022 Malbec hails from Adrianna Vineyard, contains 10% Cabernet Franc and was fermented entirely whole clusters before maturing for 15 months in foudre, tank and barrel. The bouquet starts with a poised interplay between herbal and floral elements, with a core of black fruits, followed by a rich, fluid and seamless palate. It concludes with an intensely savory, earth-tinged finish framed with grippy, refined tannins. Drink Date 2024 - 2030.”
          - 92 Points, Wine Advocate (5/1/2025)

“The 2022 Malbec includes 10% Cabernet Franc from Uco Valley. This aged for 15 months in a mix of foudres (50%), barrels (25%) and tanks (25%). It opens with red fruit, fresh plum, soft herbs like chamomile and pennyroyal and a violet note. This is dry, smooth and fruit-forward, with fine tannins, juicy flow and a subtle, chalky texture. The 2022 is a modern Argentine style, with precision and mouthwatering fruit. Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035.”
          - 94 Points, Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo (8/2025)

Soft and delicious enough to drink on it own, it also makes a perfect companion for all kinds of beef - from a big juicy burger, to a perfectly grilled NY Strip to a slow smoked brisket. We have just 15 cases available.

Plus Their 99-Point Cabernet Franc Stunner!

2021 El Enemigo "Gran Enemigo" Cabernet Franc
Gualtallary, Mendoza, Argentina
~~~~~~~~~~~
Alejandro Vigil has been Chief Winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata since 2002, during which time he produced South America’s first wine to earn a 100-Point rating from the Wine Advocate.
Today we bring you his magnificent 2021 “Gran Enemigo” Gualtallary bottling of 85% Cabernet Franc blended with 15% Malbec. Earning this massive 99-Point review, it is nothing less than magnificent.
“The 2021 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard gets my nod as the supreme example of the Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Cabernet Francs. It hails from a plot planted on calcareous rocky soils in 1995 with 10,000 vines per hectare, fermented with 40% whole bunches in barrique and underwent a 15-month élevage in 100-year-old foudre. Opening with a brooding, inward and quietly perfumed nose, its aromatic profile ceaselessly expands to encompass all manner of herbal and floral complexity, combining simmering intensity with supreme elegance. The palate follows suit with a rich, silky, refined and gently succulent energy, releasing into a graceful, dense and glacial conclusion that gives equal measure to vertical energy and horizontal richness. The finish slowly but steadily builds upon itself, revealing shimmering acidity and ultra-refined tannins with increased aeration. There is no better example of Cabernet Franc's suitability in the Uco Valley, a match rendered here with incomparable finesse, depth and complexity. Drink Date 2024 - 2041.”
          - 99 Points, Wine Advocate (5/1/2025)
“Is it possible to create a wine with structure but without weight? The 2021 Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Gualtallary offers a remarkable answer to that apparent paradox, finding the solution in a balanced combination of terroir and careful cellar work. It's almost utopian—a mountain wine with the structure and character of high-altitude vineyards, yet with the agility and freshness of an oceanic red. Purple in hue, it opens with blackberry and plum, layered with mountain herbs, a hint of sour cherry, cassis and floral tones of violet and lavender. Dry and juicy, with a slightly compact feel, the wine glides across the palate with weightless grace, supported by fine, chalky tannins. This wine is a triumph. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2046.”
          - 98 Points, Vinous - Joaquin Hidalgo (11/2024)
“Another linear offering of the variety, excellent for further aging, the 2021 Cabernet Franc Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard is a showcase of the cooler-climate region, crisp on the palate in lengthy acidity and firm, dusty tannins. The oak accentuates the cauldron of dried herb, baking spice, and garrigue at its heart. Cellar through 2041.”
          - 97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck (5/22/2025)
“Graphite and blueberries with hints of tar, dark earth and ink on the nose. Medium-bodied with a compact and polished palate that is like a tight ball of fine silk in texture. Very structured yet all in balance. Give it four or five years to come around. But you’ll be tempted to try it now.”
          - 98 Points, James Suckling (2/4/2024)
