Juan Gil "Silver Label" earns 93 Points from Wine Advocate and it's still just $12.99!
Packed with jammy and peppery red fruits, the 2021 Juan Gil "Silver Label" has just arrived at Vin Chicago. Drinking like a baby Châteauneuf and earning a massive 93-Point review from Wine Advocate, it has never been better.
It's no accident this wine is so good. The Juan Gil family harvests the fruit from old, extremely low-yielding limestone soiled parcels of bush vine Monastrell. How low yielding? Well, they get just over one ton per acre. Even compared to the famously low-yielding vines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, those are tiny yields, and the resulting fruit is dense with fruit and power.
What is even more of a miracle, however is the price. When we first featured this wine 15 years ago, we sold it to you for $13.79. That was a VERY good price then. A decade and a half later, through the magic of favorable exchange rates and LOTS of hard work by the Juan Gil team, our price is even less!
It is simply fantastic that we're able to bring you a wine this good for only thirteen bucks. Read on for the rest of our notes, and for special blowout pricing on quality Vodka, Gin, Bourbon and Irish Whiskey, then make your way quickly over to the Big Yellow Button to get in on the action!
2021 Bodegas Juan Gil "Silver Label" Monastrell
Jumilla, Spain
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pouring a deep ruby color with streaks of purple-pink and garnet, this wonderfully versatile favorite has upped its game in the 2021 vintage. The wine leads with ripe red berries similar to a Southern Rhône red. In the mouth, black raspberry jam and blueberry compote flavors lead to notes of coffee, black pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, red earth, and red flowers that linger atop the deliciously balanced structure.
A bit more vibrant and less overtly jammy than previous bottlings, this new 2021 release has earned 93 Points from Wine Advocate, who writes...
“2021 is a cooler and fresher year than 2020, even though both were very good. The 2021 Juan Gil (silver label) feels more harmonious, complex and deep than the 2020, as I noticed in most wines when I tasted both years; it's longer and more elegant, very clean. It has similar parameters but the perception is fresher. It matured in French oak barrels. 312,000 bottles produced. Drink Date: 2023 - 2029.”
- 93 Points, Wine Advocate (1/18/2024)
Wine Advocate quotes $18. It's way more than a square deal at that price, but we bring it to you today for 27% less! Enjoy this any day of the week with practically anything from burgers to tacos to bowls of spicy chili!
