Celebrated Napa winemaker Julien Fayard honed his craft at Château Lafite before moving to California to work with Philippe Melka on some of Napa’s most famous luxury bottlings. Eventually setting out on his own, he is now winemaker for several high-end Napa wineries, including Purlieu, whose bread and butter are single vineyard wines in the $165 to $300 range.
As is so often the case, however, it is the winery's least expensive wine that is their best value. Made using excess juice from their premium wines along with some additional purchased fruit, the 2021 Le Pich is outrageously delicious with an elegant and complex collection of cassis, juicy red berry, blackberry, pepper, musk, savory soy, olive, fresh turned earth, vanilla and sweet wood spice flavors, all wrapped up in the almost-Burgundy-like texture that is Fayard's signature.
This wine is seductive in a way that transcends its price. Loving its fresh character and nuanced tannins, we are a strong 93+ Points.

She also crafts the wines for Castiel Estate, a tiny property located on Napa's Howell Mountain. In 2021, Celia made only 332 cases of this nearly perfect 100% Cabernet. We don’t have much - just a few six-pack cases - and offer it today at a totally crazy price!

It's a full-bodied, concentrated, powerful Mountain Cabernet revealing ample smoked black fruits, notes of graphite, tobacco, spicy wood, and bouquet garni, a dense, layered mid-palate, building tannins, and a gorgeous overall profile that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age.
