2022 Tenuta La Pergola Monferrato Rosso
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Bodda family's Tenuta La Pergola is nestled in Piedmont right where the hills of the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato intersect. Founded in 1903, it is now operated by third and fourth generations.
Kermit first visited their winery following a lunch at a local trattoria where he enjoyed a bottle of their wine. That chance visit led to the beautiful, fresh, lively red blend of Piedmontese grapes that we bring you today.
This 2022 bottling is a blend of 61% Barbera, 19% Bonarda, 19% Dolcetto, and 1% Croatina that was aged 10 months in stainless steel and then bottled. Give it a slight chill and then pop the cork to discover fresh red flavors of cherry, dried raspberry, cranberry and a touch of blackberry complemented by red and purple floral tones an subtle notes of dried leather, wet stone, and moist earth.
With the complexity, versatility, and deliciousness off the charts, it’s fantastic that we’re able to offer such an alluring wine from the Kermit book for only twelve bucks. The only downside here is our limited supply. Once this one is gone, it’s gone for good!
Rare Cru Barbaresco from Bruno Rocca!
Approaching cult status, these single-vineyard bottlings from Bruno Rocca are some of the most allocated, tough-to-get bottles in all of Barbaresco. From the famous Rabajà and Currà vineyards, these 97- and 98-Point gems are both from the great 2021 vintage and both available in VERY limited quantities.
2021 Bruno Rocca ”Rabajà” Barbaresco
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Ask any Barberesco enthusiast to name the best vineyard sites of Barbaresco, and Rabajà is sure to be mentioned. There are a handful of producers to own vines here, including Bruno Giacosa whose Rabaja sells for upwards of $300. Bruno Rocca’s grandfather purchased a dominant share of this prized vineyard in 1958, and it is where the winery sits today. This is Barbaresco at its finest and most classic.
“A wonderful expression of this celebrated site and the outstanding vintage, the structured Bruno Rocca 2021 Rabajà is a compelling wine with aromas and flavors of crushed raspberry, cherry tart, blue flower, star anise and forest floor. Showing its Rabajà roots, it boasts iron mineral notes, firm, fine-grained tannins and lots of depth. Drink 2029–2041.”
- 97 Points, Kerin O’Keefe (8/2026)
“Macerated cherry and menthol flavors are matched to broad, dusty tannins in this intense red. Caraway, white pepper and mineral flashes provide depth as this builds to the long, chewy finish. Balanced, if on the muscular side. Best from 2028 through 2046. 527 cases made, 49 cases imported.”
- 94 Points, Wine Spectator (4/30/2025)
“Always a crowd-pleaser, the Bruno Rocca 2021 Barbaresco Rabajà is especially defined by its mineral nuances that are chalky, powdery and refined. This wine wears that mineral mantel like a champion, and I can't say that many Nebbiolos pull it off as well as this. The Rabajà also shows expertly worked tannins that are glossy, polished and firm. This site sits at 250 to 300 meters in elevation on tuffaceous clay and limestone soils. The vines are 55 years old (and 6,000 bottles were made). Drink Date: 2026 - 2045.”
- 97 Points, Wine Advocate (6/19/2025)
Of 49 cases imported to the United States, only a handful made their way to Chicago. We found five listings with a $140 median. Our price beats them all.

2021 Bruno Rocca ”Currà” Barbaresco
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
From a parcel purchased by the Rocca family in 2001, their Curra bottling is from organically farmed Nebbiolo aged 18 months in French barrique, only 10% of which was new.
“The 2021 Barbaresco Currà from Bruno Rocca is absolutely stunning, starting with its intense aromas of violet, rose, eucalyptus and whiffs of underbrush and truffle. Full-bodied and showing great energy and class, the palate delivers raspberry, strawberry compote, licorice and blood orange before closing on mint and bitter almond. It's beautifully balanced, with taut, refined tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2029–2041.”
- 98 Points, Kerin O’Keefe (8/2026)
“The Bruno Rocca 2021 Barbaresco Currà has a savory side with a uniquely ferrous or rusty signature. It accompanies elegant fruit, black cherry and wild plum. This is a delicate wine, expertly made, that reveals a combination of firmness and tension on the long finish. This 3,000-bottle release comes from a vineyard site celebrated for is southwest exposures and clay limestone soils mixed with sandstone. At 40 years old, the vines are getting up there in complexity. Drink Date: 2026 - 2040.”
- 96 Points, Wine Advocate (6/19/2025)
“An earthy undertone lifts the strawberry, cherry and floral flavors in this red. Marvelous harmony and structure prolong the finish, where mineral and savory elements linger. Finesse, purity and power converge in the best sense. Best from 2029 through 2049. 333 cases made, 32 cases imported.”
- 97 Points, Wine Spectator (3/31/2025)
