==========

2021 Voliero Brunello di Montalcino
Tuscany, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Full and powerful with excellent balance, crystal clear purity and shimmering intensity of fruit, the 2021 Voliero has everything you want in a top shelf Brunello.
Ultra-complex flavors of ripe cherry and cranberry merge with notes of tobacco, dried tea leaf, dusty earth, dried wild herbs, cured meat, smoke and baking spices. Still very much in its youth, it is already quite hard to resist. We can’t imagine how good it will be with another five, ten, or fifteen years of age!
“Each year, I taste Andrea Cortonesi’s wines from both Uccelliera and Voliero side by side. Both interpretations are fabulous and demonstrate Cortonesi’s incredible skill, but they deliver completely different experiences. In 2021, the Voliero wins by a hair.”
- Vinous, November 2025
Awarding 96 Points, a point more than they gave to Cortonesi's brilliant 2021 Uccelliera, Vinous writes...
“The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully intense, slowly evolving with nuances of crushed rocks, menthol and citrus-infused blackberries. It is harmonious throughout, with silken textures and a lifted feel. A wave of ripe red and black fruits swirls across the senses, energized by brisk acidity. Crunchy mineral tones add depth toward the close, coupled with a minty freshness as the 2021 finishes staining and full of youthful tension. It is compact and complex today, with a very bright future. This reminds me of a perfect marriage between the 2016 and 2019 vintages. Drinking Window: 2028 - 2046."
- 96 Points, Vinous - Eric Guido (11/2025)
“Displaying a medium red hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is expressive on opening, with a brightly spiced nose of dried orange peel, cranberries, redcurrants, dried earth, cinnamon, and clove. The palate is medium-bodied and elegant, with refined tannins, refreshing acidity, and a chalky texture that feels a touch understated at this early stage. On a second tasting, it showed fabulous length, balance, and focus, and it should only get better with another 6-12 months in bottle before drinking beautifully over the coming 12-15 years. Drink 2026-2046."
Vinous quotes $85 for the Uccelliera and $78 for the Voliero. As usual, we're able to bring it to you for less. For Brunello lovers, this is a very easy call.
2024 Voliero Toscana Rosso
Tuscany, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Coming entirely from fruit grown on Voliero's estate, this beautiful Toscana Rosso is a screaming value that flies way under the radar.
A blend of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Syrah, the wine’s outstanding purity of fruit is on full display from the very first sip, with the Sangiovese offering bright red fruits and dazzling acidity, and the Syrah adding weight, concentration, color, and signature notes of blackberry and blueberry with hints of smoke, cured meat, black pepper, dried herbs, and violets.
Nearly full-bodied, this massively overdelivering "baby Super Tuscan" is ready to go any night of the week and begs to be paired with grilled meats of any kind! We are a very enthusiastic 90+ Points. Check out Jeb Dunnuck’s spot-on tasting notes...
“Pouring a youthful ruby/magenta hue, the 2024 Toscana Rosso is delightful on opening, with pure aromas of black cherries, raspberries, purple flowers, and fresh rosemary. Based on Sangiovese with up to 20% Syrah from Montalcino and aged without oak, the palate is medium-bodied and supple, with balanced richness, ripe tannins, and a gentle warmth that comes through on the finish. It’s a highly appealing blend to enjoy over the next several years. Drink 2026-2030."

The fact that Mr. Cortonesi can produce such a high quality wine from his Voliero estate that sells for such a low price is a true testament to his passion and skill. We only wish he made more. Median online retail is an absolutely fantastic $18. We’re even less. As always, this one will fly out by the case!
