World Class Chablis from Isabelle and Denis Pommier!

World Class Chablis from Isabelle and Denis Pommier!

When we introduced you last year to the mouthwateringly mineral-driven, extraordinarily underpriced artisanal Chablis of Isabelle and Denis Pommier, our supply got snapped up in a matter of hours!

Today, we are thrilled to bring you three new releases, including the under-the-radar "Hautériven" Petit-Chablis that delivers a serious Chablis drinking experience for under 30 dollars, and stunning Premier Cru bottlings from the Troesmes (94 Points, $45.99) and Fourchaume (95 Points, $59.99) vineyards.

As with last year, our supply is quite limited. Scroll down to learn about what makes their wines so darn good, then click the Big Green Button to secure your bottles before it’s too late!

2023 Isabelle et Denis Pommier "Hautériven"
Petit-Chablis, Chablis, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
As a young couple back in 1990, Isabelle and Denis took over two hectares of their family's land and began their own journey as vignerons in Chablis. Since then, they have grown their estate holdings to 16 hectares, including few choice parcels in 1er Cru vineyards and this 2.8 hectare Petite Chablis parcel in Villy.
Leading with notes of pear, lemon, and oyster shell, this clean, mineral-driven Chablis is pure and zippy with a nice, saline-tinged finish. Earning a solid 91 points on our scale, it is a rare sub-$30 Chablis that really demonstrates the unique character of this very special corner of Burgundy.
Harvested from their 25 year old vines, it is a prime example of what a steadfast commitment to organic farming, wild yeast fermentation, and focus on quality over quantity can do. Unlike the 1er Cru wines below, Isabelle and Denis forgo the use of oak with their Hautériven bottling, providing it six months on the lees in stainless tank before bottling. The result is just right.
Looking online we find seven listings ranging from $30 to $53. Handily beating them all, our price puts this one right in the sweet spot!
2023 Isabelle et Denis Pommier "Troesmes" 1er Cru
Chablis, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
The depth here is mindblowing! Offering a rich and very flavorful mouthfeel, their 2023 Troesmes showcases crunchy green apple, pear, and lemon blossom along with an abundance of saline, wet stone and chalky earth notes. Our sample bottle drank beautifully for a full three days after opening.

Vinified naturally and raised for 18 months in a combination of tank and prior-use barrels, this rare bottling comes from a south/southeast facing parcel within the larger Beauroy 1er Cru vineyard. Planted with vines 40 to 60+ years of age, the dry Kimmeridgian marl and chalky limestone soils concentrate the grapes, while cool nights preserve fresh acidity.

This is what great Chablis is all about, and it earns a huge 94 Points on our scale. Comparable to more famous $100+ Chablis 1er Cru bottlings, this special wine will only improve with further cellaring and should drink wonderfully over the coming eight to ten years.

While we can't find any other listings for the 2023, we did find two for the prior vintage, at $65 and $77. It is one of the best sub-$50 Chablis we've tasted all year, and our price makes it a seriously hot buy.

2023 Isabelle et Denis Pommier "Fourchaume" 1er Cru
Chablis, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
The Premier Cru “Fourchaume” vineyard is not only one of the most famous vineyards of Chablis, it is one of the most recognized in all of Burgundy.
Isabelle and Denis Pommier organically farm a single hectare of vines here, ranging from 25 to 50 years of age. Fermented and aged in the same manner as the Troesmes, they allow the terroir and mother nature to be the differentiator.
Once again, the depth here is simply incredible. Matched by a rich, mouthfilling texture and a tremendous purity of orchard fruit, the minerality, salinity and chalky earth carries through a mile-long finish.
This is world class Chablis and we award it a very rare 95 Points. One of the best Fourchaume values you’ll find, we only wish we had more of it to offer. Grab a few bottles for your collection quickly. This will be gone in a flash.
