2022 Domaine Henri Latour & Fils Bourgogne Rouge

Domaine Henri Latour is located in Auxey-Duresses, a small village just southwest of Beaune, close to Volnay. Brothers Francois and Sylvan Latour farm and vinify the wines here, as six generations of their family have done before them.
This 100% estate grown Pinot comes from their hand harvested 40-year-old vines. Popping the cork, this silly-good-value pours a deep ruby color and reveals initial aromas of spiced cherry, forest floor, delicate flowers, and minerality. In the mouth, the feel is soft and texturally pleasing, with expanded flavors of wild strawberry and black cherry complimented by tree bark, vanilla, and baking spice dust notes.
Taking full advantage of the warm 2022 vintage, this stunningly-well-priced Burgundy offers a true frame of medium acidity and tannins, and is friendly enough that California and Oregon Pinot Noir drinkers will find much to enjoy.
A very solid 90+ Points on our scale, this delicious wine is a rare Burgundy that can compete against Oregon both on style and price!

In January we hosted a tasting at our Chicago store featuring over 30 wines imported by Kermit Lynch. It was a fantastic lineup of wines, with one complex, exuberant, and impeccably delicious bottling standing out for many as the wine of the night.
The wine was a Premier Cru Red Burgundy from Antonie Jobard and, today, we bring it to you!

Though Antoine is best known for his white wines - some of the best in all of Burgundy - he also quietly bottles a small quantity of reds, and they are brilliant.
This organically farmed Pinot Noir comes from 35+ year old vines growing on a 0.96 hectare parcel in the "Les Epenottes" vineyard, a Premier Cru site at the southern edge of Beaune, immediately across the border from the famous Pommard Premier Cru “Les Epenots” vineyard. In the generous 2022 vintage, this deeply colored, concentrated, rich, layered, and very complex red absolutely floored us.
Medium-opaque with impressive viscosity, this impactful Burgundy gives opulent flavors of dark cherry, cassis, deep red flowers, limestone, clay, cardamom and brioche. Though still a young wine, it is already fleshy, open, and - dare we say - flashy! Earning a strong 94+ Points on our scale, this is a serious bottling that will continue to stun and develop over the coming 10 to 15 years and beyond.
If you've not yet experienced the reds of Jobard, this one should not be missed. Compared to other Burgundy of such a high caliber, it is an absolute steal!
