Special Pricing on Six Extraordinary Whites from Olivier Humbrecht!

Since 1620 twelve generations of the Humbrecht family have grown grapes in Alsace. Current head of the family, Olivier Humbrecht, has been at the helm since 1989, coincidentally the same year he became a Master of Wine.

Within his first two vintages he collected multiple 100 point scores, and has continued since then making some of Alsace’s most lauded bottlings.

Today, we offer tiny allocations of six bottlings from this iconic producer, with supplies ranging from as many as a handful of cases to as few as a handful of bottles. Scores range as high as 98 points and, as far as we can tell, our prices are the best in the country.

2022 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Zind" Chardonnay/Auxxerois
~~~~~~~~~~~
The secret sauce in this idiosyncratic bottling is that it comes from now-35-year-old vines in Clos Windsbuhl, a venerated late-ripening site with written history dating back to 1324.
The southern edge of this vineyard abuts the Vosges forest, and its calcareous limestone soils are beautifully suited to that great grape of Burgundy, Chardonnay. Though present in many Cremant d'Alsace sparkling wines, the region does not allow Chardonnay in still wines - despite the strength of this variety, this excellent white is labeled as a based Vin de France. Co-planted with Auxerrois, it is fermented and aged in large foudres, resting on its lees over the entirety of its slow, cold elevage.
“Complex nose of Amalfi lemon and flint with leesy complexity. Excellent structure on the medium-bodied palate. Very straight with excellent candied citrus complexity and just a hint of oak. A cuvee of two thirds chardonnay and one third auxerrois. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”
          - 93 Points, James Suckling (5/6/2024)
Not only does our price on this mineral-laced bottling beat all seven listings in the US, we somehow manage to beat every listing across the planet!
2022 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Turkheim" Alsace Pinot Gris
~~~~~~~~~~~
“This entry-level dry pinot gris has a wonderful flinty freshness and a very appealing lightness of touch on the medium-bodied palate. Very salty and lemony bone-dry finish. Just 12.2% alcohol. From vines of varying ages, the youngest planted in 1992. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.”
          - 92 Points, James Suckling (5/6/2024)

“A jolt of succulent acidity keeps pace with the richness in this plush version. Fresh meadow blossom, dried apricot and nectarine notes are flecked with green herbs and spices. Shows bitter zestiness on the finish. Drink now. 364 cases imported.”

2021 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Heimbourg" Alsace Pinot Gris
~~~~~~~~~~~
“This great pinot gris has stunning concentration and an amazing interplay of chalky, smoky and ripe yellow fruits character. Only medium-bodied, but with so much mineral power. Everything pulling together drives this along at a racy clip. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”
          - 96 Points, James Suckling (3/23/2023)
Much to our chagrin, we have only eight bottles available of this gem. It will be gone in a flash!
“The bouquet of this wine is a cloud of smoke and flint. A very juicy, but also very elegant palate with remarkable freshness for this grape variety. Stony finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”
2021 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Clos Jebsal" Alsace Pinot Gris
~~~~~~~~~~~
Many Alsatian houses have agreed that 2021 marked their best vintage for Pinot Gris in a very long time. It was a low-yielding vintage that made high-toned, dry wines in a category that often faces an identity struggle. This is a nervy, mineral-dipped white wine of discretion and intrigue, with inner-density, energy and very special character!

“Hang on to your hat! Here’s a dense and dangerous wine for a grape most wine drinkers think can only give no-brainers. Very compact and structured with a dark personality that some may find shocking, but what makes it that way is the gypsum marl minerality that is its soul. Brain-rattling freshness at the super stony finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.”
          - 97 Points, James Suckling (3/23/2023)

2021 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Rangen de Thann St. Urbain"
Alsace Grand Cru Riesling
~~~~~~~~~~~
Our sole Grand Cru offering today is dubbed in its 98-point review as “the ultimate mineral dry Riesling." From a vineyard that has been cultivated for well over 500 years, it is a legend!
“The ultimate mineral dry riesling? Incredibly smoky and salty, with stacks of Amalfi lemon freshness. Breathtaking vitality and flinty minerality on the incredibly focused, medium-bodied palate. Samurai-sword finish that is hyper-straight and clean. Great potential. From biodynamically grown grapes with Biodyvin certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. Tasted at the Zind-Humbrecht Grand Cru Rangen vertical in November 2023.”
         - 98 Points, James Suckling (11/19/2023)
We have just seven bottles to offer today.
