Founded in 1977, Grattamacco was the first winery after Sassicaia to set up shop in the now famous Bolgheri appellation. The initial vintage of their Bolgheri Rosso was 1979. Forty-seven years later, we present to you their highly rated, and smashingly delicious 2023 release.
A blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 10% Sangiovese, 5% Petit Verdot, the 2023 Grattamacco was aged for 21 months in French barrique, and it is a champion wine. The combination of plush, perfectly balanced fruit, supple tannins and near perfect balance will light up your pleasure center in a big way. We popped a bottle this Tuesday and paired it with a medium-rare NY strip. Simply sublime!

The palate is full-bodied, with a refreshing, compact, and angular structure, well-defined tannins, an even spine of acidity, and notes of dusty earth through the finish. The oak aging regime includes 80% new wood and 20% neutral oak from various coopers, mostly sourcing from the tonnelleries Orion and de Mercurey. "There is no single recipe. “The 2022 Merlot Redigaffi (100% Merlot) displays a saturated purple/red color and is balanced and ripe on the nose, with aromas of plum, candied flowers, red apple, cedar, and dried earth. Full-bodied, it fills the palate with ripe tannins, mouthwatering, fresh acidity, and a very long finish without ever being heavy. It has incredible depth and a luxurious feel, and it’s very well-balanced, but it will take time to reveal its more complete and complex aromas of leather and tobacco. Drink over the coming 20 years.
