2017 Ca’ Rome’ "Rapèt" Barolo
Piedmont, Italy
~~~~~~~~~~~
Ca’ Rome’ is a small property founded by Romano Marengo and run by his children, Giuseppe and Paola. Their powerful 2017 Barolo is crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grown in the “Rapèt” parcel within Barolo’s famed Cerretta vineyard.
“The 2017 Barolos are quite possibly the finest wines I have ever tasted from the Marengo family.”
- Antonio Galloni, January 2021
Full and fleshy, this garnet-ruby colored red features a nose full of all the desirable Barolo flavors, including dried-yet-vibrant red fruits, crimini mushroom, rose petals, wood spice, tobacco ash and red earth minerality. With big tannins and lifted acidity, it’s a wine to serve with grilled vegetable risotto or, even better, with grilled ribeye.
Gaining complexity with air, it keeps calling you back to enjoy one more sip. Antonio Galloni, who has reviewed every vintage of this wine from 2004 through 2021, awards 94 points, the highest score he's even given to this wine!
“The 2017 Barolo Rapèt is bright, juicy and absolutely delicious. This fruity Serralunga Barolo offers tons of immediacy in the open-knit style that is typical of parts of this Serralunga vineyard. Silky, impeccably balanced tannins add to the wine's considerable allure. The 2017 is not super complex, but it is racy and dangerously delicious. Drinking Window: 2023 - 2035.”
- 94 Points, Vinous - Antonio Galloni (1/2021)
At eight years of age, the 2017 Ca' Rome' "Rapet" is entering a sweet spot of drinkability, and it will continue to age effortlessly for another 10 years.
