=============

2022 Roland Lavantureux "Les Fauconniers" Bourgogne Epineuil, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
Using vines planted by their grandfather in 1969, David and Arnaud Lavantureux have just released the third vintage of this remarkable red wine from the heart of Chablis country!
“A wine of striking finesse”
- Kermit Lynch, Importer
With a hint of funk and barnyard, this impressive red displays sublime texture and a sophisticated collection of flavors. Long and structured, with yummy deliciousness, it could easily be mistaken for 1er Cru Gevrey Chambertin from a super traditional grower.
Look for flavors of black cherry, cassis, coffee, green peppercorns, truffle, and red flowers, all atop a grippy, gutsy core that is found in the best of Burgundy.
Farmed organically, the 55-year-old vines of the family's "Les Fauconniers" vineyard grow in the same ancient limestone seabeds as the famed Grand Crus of Chablis. In the great 2022 vintage, the result is a red Burgundy that earns 94 points from our team. How much this wine overdelivers, we cannot emphasize enough!
If a wine of this quality and character hailed from a famed site in the Côte de Nuits, it would be reasonable to expect an $85 to $140 price. Looking online we found seven listings with a median of $56, making this wine one of those rare values from Burgundy. Making things even better, we offer it today for a price that beats every one of those listings.
Grab a few bottles. Try one now and stage the rest to enjoy over the coming 10+ years. Great juice here and, at our lowest-in-country price, a hidden gem!
Two Exceptional 2022 Reds from Domaine Robert Chevillon!
Producing a mere 1700 cases per year, many Burgundy lovers believe Domaine Robert Chevillon to be the finest producer in Nuits-Saint-Georges, and one of the best in all of Burgundy. (And we agree!)
“Domaine Robert Chevillon is one of my favorite addresses in all of Burgundy”
- Wine Advocate, January 2024
We visited them ten years ago, tasting with brothers Bertrand and Denis Chevillon, and are as impressed with their wines today as we were a decade ago. Despite their status, their wines are not insanely priced as is the case with so many of the prestigious wines of Burgundy.
“As long-time readers know, I am a huge fan of the domaine and regularly collect the wines for my personal cellar. With that said, and when considered from top to bottom, 2022 is as good a vintage as Chevillon has made, and that's saying something as the quality is almost never less than excellent.”
- Burghound, January 2024
We present these two wines, both from the exceptional 2022 vintage, with from-the-barrel notes from a trio of leading reviewers, including Allen Meadows, the Burghound. As the above quote reveals, the wines of Chevillon hold a very special place for Allen.
It is important to note that, unlike most every other reviewer, an 87 point score from Burghound is an accomplishment. Scores well into the 90s, as is the case with these wines, indicates something very special. Only a handful of bottles available of each. We will indicate on the order form as they sell out.
2022 Domaine Robert Chevillon
"Les Roncières" 1er Cru
Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
From a one hectare parcel featuring 52-year-old vines growing in limestone, oolite and gravel soils. Extremely limited, less than 2 cases!

“The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Roncières 1er Cru, hit by hail in June, has a bright bouquet with black cherries, iodine and light violet aromas, taking a little time to cohere in the glass. The palate is very fine with silky smooth tannins, impressive depth, a caressing texture and more mineralité on the finish compared to the Bousselottes. Obviously, the hail had no impact here! Superb. Drinking Window: 2027 - 2048.”
          - 93-95 Points, Vinous - Antonio Galloni (1/2024)

“An agreeably spicy, fresh and ripe nose freely offers up its array of poached plum and dark cherry. The refined, stony and energetic middleweight flavors possess fine depth while exhibiting even better length on the balanced and lightly austere finale that is firm enough to need a decade plus to fully resolve. Excellent. Drink: 2034+.”
          - 91-94 Points, Burghound (1/10/2024)

“Chevillon's 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Roncières offers up aromas of cherries and raspberries mingled with peony and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, textural and succulent, with a creamy core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, it's a charming, gourmand wine that will offer a broad drinking window.”

2022 Domaine Robert Chevillon
"Les Vaucrains" 1er Cru
Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France
~~~~~~~~~~~
From a 1.6 hectare parcel of 77 year old vines, this is arguably one of Burgundy’s best and most underrated wines.
“The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru, the last Premier Cru to be served from barrel, has the finest nose: mineral-rich black and red fruit with exquisite detail. The most precise of Chevillon's Premier Crus. The medium-bodied palate offers ripe red fruit laced with marmalade and blood orange. It’s a little spicier than the Les Saint-Georges and grainier in texture, with a dash of brown spice on the finish. Outstanding. Drinking Window: 2028-2052.”
          - 94-96 Points, Vinous - Antonio Galloni (1/2024)
“A more reserved nose grudgingly reflects notes of poached plum, earth, plenty of sauvage character and interesting whiffs of crushed star anise. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and intense medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm, compact and tautly muscular finish. This youthfully austere effort is going to require extended patience as it's both backward and very tightly wound yet oh so promising! Don't miss! Outstanding. Drink: 2037+.”
          - 93-96 Points, Burghound (1/10/2024)
“The 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains is inky and serious, unwinding in the glass with notions of dark berries, cherries and plums complemented by subtle hints of rose petal and violet. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with an imposing chassis of rich, powdery tannins, this will, as ever, reward patience.”
          - 93-95 Points, Wine Advocate (1/18/2024)
